Wink 1080p movies on 720p set?

What happens when I play a 1080p movie like "50 First Dates" on a Blu-ray player connected [through HDMI] to a TV that can only do 720p?

Will the movie play correctly?

If so, which machine converts the 1080p to 720p--the player or the TV set?

There is a setting on the player to display the picutre in 720p (or 1080i) If you try keeping the player at 1080p and watch a 1080p source, I am gonna guess that nothing will appear but noise.

Oh, sorry, I didn't make myself clear enough. You will need to set the player to 720p. 1080p will give you noise, as Clayton mentioned.

The OP didn't mention that he would keep the player at 1080p.
