Paramount Terminator Genisys (2015) Blu-ray 3D [Region Free]

How did we not have a thread?? I saw this today in Imax 3D and thought it was great. I was expecting it to be absolutely terrible based on the reviews but it was so much better than I hoped. The 3D was absolutely magnificent throughout, really beautiful conversion and one of the best 3D presentations I've seen so far this year. I would rate it medium to strong 3D throughout, it never goes into super strong but it's firmly somewhere between medium and strong, think Edge of Tomorrow.

the movie itself really works apart from a few aspects. Jai Courtney was actually surprisingly good as Reece, I was expecting to hate him, Arnie is great of course, Jason Clarke made a good John Connor, I liked his performance a lot, the only real weak link was Emilia Clarke who was just wrong for the role. The problem with Clarke is she looks so young and is so tiny it just seems daft when she's hefting guns around and she is not a strong actress. Lena Headey would have been much better as she proved in The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

The movie is filled to the brim with stunning action and visual FX. I was also surprised with how good the CG is, apart from a few ropey CG face replacements for Arnie, everything looked amazing. There is a wide variety of crazy action in this which is perfect for the 3D.

I highly recommend checking this out, don't listen to the reviews, this is good summer fun and a spectacular action sci fi with a decent enough story. The script could be better in places and most of the gags are a bit lame but nothing to spoil the overall experience. With great 3D too it's no brainer. I enjoyed this much more than Jurassic World!

EDIT: Levcore, thanks, yes, they can merge the two. Or we'll just use this one, no problem.

I liked it, though the story is a lot of dialog to digest. The action was fun and the 3D good.

I actually liked the girl Emile Clarke for the role of Sarah. She's a believable actress, though it's tough to top the cold, hard performance of Linda Hamilton. This girl reminds me of her younger sister.

Terminator Genisys 3D Blu Ray
Terminator Genisys 3D, worldwide in theaters July 1, 2015.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminator_Genisys

Budget was $155 million to create it.

Cinemark 3D standard theater:
3D Previews:
Pixels 3D (looks like high medium to strong 3D)
(That's it?) They skimped on the previews at Cinemark this time.

Terminator Genisys 3D was mostly enjoyable to watch with one very funny shot in the movie on the bridge. The blending of the first movie's story was complex and you have to pay attention to follow it.

3D was mostly medium 3D layers and during action scenes, some occasionally strong 3D there, with a few strong but very brief pop outs. I'd give the 3D a 7/10. Good, but they could've pushed it a lot more. For comparison's sake, Pacific Rim's 3D I'd give a 10/10.

Loved it. The 3D was very good especially with the scenes with the T-1000

Thanks Paul. The 3D is good enough to pick up on blu ray 3D, so hopefully they keep it's release on schedule probably around November 2015.

All of the time travel can get a bit confusing as prior histories are erased or interfered with, but it was a clever way to tell a new story while also referring to the prior Terminator movies.

sheesh - all the fanboys are cumming over this movie, while I unfortunately am siding with the critics - what a dumb pointless movie - the script is incomprehensible beyond belief with some truly hideous dialogue and plot points going nowhere, Jai Courtney can't act out of a bag, scenes are needlessly ripped off out of Terminator 2, everyone says that Schwarzenegger's humor is amusing/funny, I was non-plussed, the twist - what twist? It tries to be entertaining but it just made me want to put my finger down my throat - really? I want my two hours back. The 3D (via IMAX-Laser) though made it barely bareable - one scene under the bus had me jerk my head as an object is thrown at your face. I was personally distracted by Emilia Clarke, looking more like Chloë Grace Moretz than a young Linda Hamilton.

The first act, the dialog felt clunky at times, but that might have also been me trying to adapt to these actors playing well known characters. I have to see it again to be sure, but I did like the second half onward. The challenge is, the first act is where they need to grab the audience. I wonder if non fans will be able to follow the complicated time traveling story.

What did you think of Terminator's 1, 2 and 3 Dubstar?

I'm just going to repost what I posted in the movies thread:

I saw this in Imax 3D earlier and I thoroughly enjoyed it, screw the critics, this was awesome. It's far from perfect true, but it's a heck of an entertaining summer action movie with spectacular action scenes and visual FX and a fun storyline. I was actually surprised by how not terrible Jai Courtney was as reece, he was fine, a bit bland perhaps but fine. Arnie was awesome, he slipped back into the character effortlessly. Emilia Clarke was the weak link here, woefully miscast, she's just too tiny and young looking and not that strong of an actress. She was very poor in the role that requires a very strong female presence which she lacks. Jason Clarke I thought made a great John Connor, I'm a fan of his so I knew he'd be good but he brought quite a bit to it, more than the script gave the character at least. The 3D was amazing, really gorgeous conversion and the whole thing looked stunning. The visual FX were far better than early trailers suggested, pretty much everything looked flawless bar a few obvious CG face replacement shots for Arnie. The 1984 arnie looked amazing and the liquid metal FX and particle FX were astounding throughout. The action was really well staged and very easy to follow, nice and clear, good editing. There was a wide variety of action which I liked, a particular favourite being the spectacular helicopter chase, a very awesome scene, even if we are aware we're watching CG choppers in a CG city flying around. At least the visual FX are strong enough to convey the large scale sequences convincingly. Plot wise it mostly worked, I'm still not sure they had to go through with the whole retconn of past events storyline but they did good with it all the same. It felt like a nice self contained movie but one that also leaves the door open for more, especially when considering the post credits scene.

Overall this was great fun, I enjoyed it much more than Jurassic World and I can't wait to buy it on 3D blu ray and watch it multiple times. It's so jammed pack with action and fun sequences that I can overlook some of the weaker aspects of the script or Emilia Clarke's lacking performance.

I couldn't agree more. This movie was awesome. I want to see it again. It's also my most anticipated 3d blu-ray of 2015.

That helicopter
[Show spoiler]chase had good action, yes.
The bridge scene was my favorite.
The fights between the old and new Terminators were fun.

I like when Emilia Clarke's Conner says something like "Get in the truck soldier!" I don't know how that could be better delivered. She's well known for her Game of Thrones role as a leading female character.
Clarke isn't a sister to Jason Clarke, is she?

They explained the human tissue getting older well enough.

Skynet's always evolving to counter the humans, but it seems like this time loop will go on forever unless the Resistance first destroys the technology to time travel and then destroy skynet. I like how it was explained that the
[Show spoiler]machines designed time travel. That was interesting.

I did enjoy this one more than Terminator Salvation mostly because Arnold is back.

If there is another one, I would hope Arnold can return in some form (even if it's only his voice over). I thought the CGI younger version of him looked about 99% convincing.

Default 3d BR - I'll buy thaat...

I havent seen the movie yet, It was one of my most anticipated releases of the year (alongside MadMax).....gotta say the reviews havent been all that great here in New Zealand either, so it's kinda knocked my enthusiasm a touch (strange as I NEVER really agree with reviewers - and in most cases I tend to enjoy the movies they bag, and hate the ones they rave about!)

Anyway - it's still on my "to see' list, Is it worth seeing at the theatre or could it wait for Blu release?

I've continued to do "MY BIT" for 3d br releases as I've just pre-ordered the limited 3D Steelbook version from Zavvi - it's gonna cost as the N.Z dollar is low - hope it rises again soon!

If you go for the action, Arnold in his iconic role and the 3D, this won't disappoint as there is plenty of each. For me, the story and characters didn't click together until the second half, when the main villain was finally established and explained their mysterious intent.

But I'm a fan of T1, 2 and 3.
Terminator 1, really good.
T2, awesome.
T3 fun (and one of the funniest ones), and is underrated IMO.
T Salvation was interesting but missing Arnold.
T Genisys offers some new ideas to the formula and Arnold has a big role.

If I have to put them in order, I'll say:
T2
T3, T1

Watched this on IMAX and thought it was really good. The 3D was well done and the special effects were really good. The story was good enough, although there were some elements of it that I didn't care for. The movie is good fun but have to say this was the smallest crowd that I have seen at the IMAX and I wonder how this is going to do at the box office.

What did you think of Terminator's 1, 2 and 3 Dubstar?
2 is a classic, than 1. 3 was a joke, a completely bonkers best viewed as a comedy than serious action. And I'll go out on a limb, and say while my first impression of 4 was of complete disdain, watching it again on bluray actually made is slightly better. 'Genisys' felt so unnecessary.

and for a Thursday night 10:45pm (IMAX 3D) showing with under two dozen folk - I don't think we'll be seeing a part '5' - I'll be very surprised how this does for it's US box office intake.

Okay, thanks for the reply. Part 3's fire truck chase was definitely one of the best in the series for chases with Arnold hanging on the ladder as it smashed through all the buildings.

It's going to have to do well Friday(yesterday), Saturday and Sunday to make a mark in the $155 million dollar budget not including advertising, before theaters start taking more of a cut of the ticket price the longer it runs.

I personally feel that not only is Terminator 1 the best of the franchise, it's one of the greatest movies ever made, it's in my top 25. T2 is bigger and has way more special effects but Terminator 1 was amazing, the story was so good and it didn't need 100 million dollars of special effects. It's film making at it's best, it popularized a theme that would be copied numerous times in the future, machines taking over.

I really didn't care for T3 or Salvation.

I freaking loved Terminator Genysis. It truly is the true sequel to T2 and James Cameron's endorsement was truly justified. Even with all the changes to the timeline it made sense in my mind. also, dare I say Jai Courtney gives his best performance yet as Kyle Reese. He brought alot of humanity and depth to the character and Emilia Clarke brings new dimensions to Sarah Connor. I've heard critics criticize her for being too small in stature and that it her character weak. She may look small, but she's a badass and easily holds her own. I think her more youthful qualities give the character more depth and relatability.

Also, Arnie kills it returning to his iconic role and he still kicks ass with the best of them. It's just wonderful! And the movie makes FANTASTIC use of 3D! High medium to strong depth through out and it has the BEST popouts I have seen in a long time. It truly takes advantage of all aspects of the 3d and the 3d conversion is absolute perfection and easily one of Stereo D's (plus some contributions from the evolving and continually impressive Prime Focus) finest. The 3D makes me long for a 3D conversion of T2. Make it happen James Cameron!

I seriously hope Terminator Genysis gets the planned sequels. It truly deserves it
