Energy Star "ratings" are BS to begin with, as they are simply numbers some group who think they are experts feel they should impose on companies and consumers. If I want to own a top piece of technology that happens to be at the top because it does NOT comply with these ratings, and I choose to pay the cost to power it, then that should be my choice and no one else's. Besides, if you look at the overall annual operational costs, the differences are inconsequential.
Having a rating system is fine for those that feel compelled to buy based upon it, but when when manufacturers are required to build within these arbitrary numbers, and performance/features/innovation suffer because of it, then I take issue. Don't even get me started on some of the state idiots that have attempted and are attempting to "ban" any such piece of equipment that may not comply with some of these ridiculous standards. |

It is kind of like salary caps in the NHL (don't know if it is as bad in other sports). Because a players salary does not count once he has retired (not playing in the NHL, teams/players negotiate long, sometimes ridiculously so, contracts so that the player makes less each year and the teams takes a smaller hit on the cap while he is playing but the player still makes as much. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/rumors/p...urn=nhl-265253 |
