Default American Woman – December 17, 2019

Anyone else pick up a copy of this? I saw it in theaters last year and thought it was fantastic merely for the acting showcase, but it was a dark and engrossing slice-of-life drama mixed with true crime that was perfect for my tastes. It was a box-office bomb from what I can tell, and basically nobody saw it.

I finally got the Blu-ray from Amazon today and was wondering if anyone else who's gotten it has a copy that resembles mine—I am slightly suspicious about whether or not it's a legitimate release: For one, the artwork does not have the Blu-ray logo on the back bottom corner; instead, it simply reads "Blu-ray Disc" in standard print. The print job on the sleeve inlay is not great quality either, and the credits along the bottom have a muddy look that you would get from a lower-quality printer. The disc itself also looks like it could be an MOD to me, though I can't tell if it's a BD-R or not—the bottom is a very dark blue, and the label on the face of it has a slick texture that looks like it may be a press-on adhesive.

Was this just the norm for this release? It's from Vertical Entertainment, which is an indie company from what I can tell. In any event, it has a bootleg or MOD look but I've not read anything about it being an MOD release.
