Should the ratings be visible or not? The advantage with anonymous ratings would be that people would be more "honest" and cause less drama/fighting. The advantage with public ratings is that it can be a bit fun to see who rated your gallery and what score they gave.
Please vote, your opinion matters. Last edited by iceman; 02-12-2011 at 10:32 PM. |

I think there should be no ratings at all and just comments.
Not sure if it possible, but a gallery of the day for each category would be cool. This could even be an e-mail subscription that people can choose to opt out of (keep on by default). Just an idea. ![]() ![]() BTW, I feel this thread will get ugly just like every other one has turned into. ![]() |

I'd vote no in regards to seeing who rated you what.
I wouldn't mind seeing who rated you overall, but their score, in my opinion, should not be public. Now movie reviewer ratings... they need to be public! And this is for the scammers/abusers: ![]() |

I like being able to see who rated me what. People hide behind internet anonymity enough as it is. Someone once created a second user profile and rated his primary profile a 10 and was leaving everyone else a 5 or less. Hiding the ratings just invites 'shadiness' IMO.
Does this thread have anything to do with the fact that we currently CANNOT see who left us ratings on our HT galleries? Last edited by Steve; 02-13-2011 at 04:39 PM. |

I voted No but it doesn't really matter much to me. I can see the issues it has caused and the work the mods have to do, crap they have to put up with. All seems really childish to me, but does make for some good reads
![]() I do like being able to see what rating I got though, there doesn't need to be a name next to the rating but it is nice to see if you got a 7 yesterday and an 8 today. If people make additions or changes/improvements it would be nice to see that your scores received on an individual basis are improving from one day to the next instead of a simple %. |

If you can't take criticism...then just disable your personal HT ratings. The idea that people can't take constructive criticism is really surprising, especially since most of us aren't in high school. I haven't checked if you can still disable ratings in your personal HT gallery, but that should still be an option for people who don't want to be rated.
However, if I put my realist hat on....I can see these ratings going away with only comments being allowed (and controlled by the user). |

Leave 'em anonymous if you want them to be honest. One suggestion: As with other types of rating systems, you may wish to consider throwing out the top and bottom (pick a number or percent of total) scores, which should help to give a more accurate overall score representation. |

Anonymous, but we should at LEAST be able to still see all our individual ratings and the date they were rated, just leave off the name of who posted the rating. The way it is now, where you can't see anything at all except the total %, is pretty lame and useless. |

![]() I like seeing who rated me, but I voted "no" b/c there seems to be a lot of people who cause drama over a lower rating. I know some people may hide behind the anonymity, but I think there are more people causing the drama I previously mentioned ![]() |

Also in regards, yes I do not currently have photos in my gallery, but I am working on changing this very soon! I had a friend come over this past weekend with his 5D/Wide Angle Lens, and we shot a ton of photos, so I will be updating my gallery soon! |

I have no problem with honest criticism. But when I get 80 ratings of 5 and one of 3, I want to understand that person's reasoning. But no comment--no name--no means to even see their theater to understand their perspective. Or maybe there's some misunderstanding.
If we are to have it anonymous, then we ought to be able to contact that voter without revealing their info to us, to inquire about it if we like. Failing that, here's an idea: It is common in weighing ratings to throw out the highest and lowest then average what's left. Maybe we should have the option to delete one rating for each 25-50 logged. When we elect to do so, the system automatically erases the lowest and the highest ratings on file. That takes out the oddball ratings at both ends of the scale. |
