Default Disney's Prep & Landing

Disney is release Prep & Landing on DVD on November 22, 2011 according to Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0051SFSCG

I was just wondering if anyone has heard/read anything about this getting a blu-ray release?

Through some Googling I discovered that a sequel may get a television debut this Christmas season:
Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice. But still no hits on whether the first or the duo will come to blu-ray.

This was one of the first modern Christmas specials I really liked. I grew up on the classic ones from the 60's and 70's by Rankin-Bass and others. It looked great in HD on broadcast, I am not sure I could stand buying just a DVD.

Yeah, looks like its just a DVD this year. Have a feeling they'll release it with its sequel on Blu next year. Next year we'll only have a few weeks to enjoy it until we blow-up on Dec 21.

Exactly my sentiments. Well besides knowing who made the classics, I grew up watching the great Christmas specials every year on TV and was overjoyed at Disney's new classic when it was debuted.

It was the a great attempt IMO at a Christmas special that was not bound to a franchise as some ploy for additional money like many of the CGI X-mas bonus features/specials are. Although I have not done enough research to say its the only one of its era.

But yea, only DVD...for now anyway. I might get it, I think I'm fine with DVD for this.

With a runtime of 22 minutes, could they do a blu-ray style (lossless video/audio) encoding and put it on a 2-layer DVD that holds just under 9GB?

I don't know exactly how everything works with encoding and don't know how much of a 50GB disk various movies utilize. It has been said that Avatar in its original release didn't have extras because they wanted all 50GB for the video/audio of the movie. If that is true and the math scales then (50 GB / 162 minutes) * 22 minutes for Prep & Landing would be ~6.79 GB. Which means it could fit on a DVD.

To bad I doubt that is what they did. I would have no problem buying a DVD if it were Blu-ray quality (1080 AVC encode, lossless audio) but due to the length of show/movie it was unnecessary to place it on a blu-ray disc.

Just picked it up at Walmart for $10. But I have a feeling it will be on Blu next year with its sequel that's airing on TV this year.
