New Santa Monica Studio IP: Open World, Vehicle Combat, 1st/3rd Person, Military?

God of War, the highly successful franchise, exclusive to the Playstation system, developed by Santa Monica Studio's and published by Sony, has just been brought back into the light since the 'last' installment of the story, God of War III, which released back in March 2010.



As of yet, the unannounced title God of War IV hasn't had any true kind of information, other than a whistle in the wind a few months ago from the PSM3 Magazine, stating that it would be set during Modern day, and will include a multiplayer mode, with a 'launch date' of September 2012. Besides that, a recent revelation was spotted in the form of a job posting from Santa Monica Studio's, asking for a "conceptual development" and "llustration" specialist for a God of War project, in an effort to "define and achieve a product's visual style or encourage artistic evolution within the studio."

Not only that, it appears previous rumours of a Modern Era setting could be true, as the genre of the title is listed under 'Military/Combat'. To further source this statement, there was an unlockable video in previous God of War games, called 'Fate of the Titan', which shows off a military helicopter, and a jeep, among other things. A new protagonist is also a possiblity. It's interesting to say the least. Check out that video below, if you haven't seen it.

Only time will tell what all of this means, so we will have to wait it out for this news to develop further.

I'm pretty sure the listing just said 'Join the God of War team' which doesn't really imply that they are making a new GOW. It is only letting people know what that studio/team is famous for.

While bringing this series into modern times intrigues me and is nothing new since it was hinted at in the first game but why can't they continue the story with his brother?

Maybe a soldier gets lost in the tomb, encounters monsters, and finds that his guns don't do a damn thing to stop them. Then he runs around for a while and somehow inherits the Blades of Whatever.

My guess/hope is that this guy will end up playing exactly like Kratos in the end, except in a new setting.

So basicaly with a modern hero exploring the ancient remains and solving puzzles we get an Uncharted style game set in modern day with loose connection to GoW3. After all, the Uncharted series has sold mega-loads and the God Of War story is finished, at least for the Kratos clan...

Setting it in Norse mythology is the best idea, because enough time has passed since Viking The Battle For Asgard has came out.

Maintains the artistic goals and vision through all phases of the game development cycle from pre-production through final product release. This entails ensuring visual development assets are of the highest artistic quality and uphold the integrity of the games design and artistic vision of the game as a whole

Maintain a good knowledge of the games design to facilitate communication and enable early identification of issues

Undertakes research and information gathering prior to the commencement of a new task to ensure game design needs, reference materials, artistic direction and technological considerations are effectively managed to meet defined goals

Facilitates requests or information needs regarding any aspect of the visual development creation process as requested

Capable of resolving a range of complex artistic development issues for both artists as well as other team members

Actively improves skill set and abilities by keeping aware of industry trends and techniques, evaluating competitive products, learning new software packages and traditional art methods.

So we have a new Santa Monica Studio game that isn't God of War, possibly open world, possibly with vehicle combat, possibly 1st and/or 3rd person, possibly with a Military/Combat theme.

With "God of War 3" in the can, the developers at Sony's Santa Monica Studio can finally rest easy...for about a week. There's no extended rest for those talented folks, though, as they've already got two projects in the hopper, with pre-production kicking off right as their biggest game ever wraps up.
