Word of Warning: Movies Anywhere

Redeemed a copy of Crazy Stupid Love on MA yesterday and it has not synced to my google account at all. MA or Google may be cracking down on cross region accounts.

Edit: It looks like it still synced to my Microsoft account. But it won't allow me to play any of those synced movies anymore on my PC.

Edit 2: Phew, seems to be a Google Play issue in general and will be taken care of. A relief to be sure.

There is currently an issue with new Movies Anywhere eligible titles purchased or redeemed on other sites not porting to Google Play/YouTube. I made 2 MA purchases this weekend, they showed up to every MA connected site/app except for YouTube/ Google Play. I emailed MA support they said it's a known issue that has been reported to Google.

Thanks for the heads up. I did see that people have been complaining on reddit that MA is having problems porting to Google Play (for US accounts) since around a week ago. So it’s not necessarily a cross-region situation.

That is a relief that it is universal and should get fixed. I thought they were finally cracking down.

Yeah, a lot of Canada specific codes in GP won't sync to MA anymore sadly. Got to be lucky. I hope they eventually release the service in Canada.

I got an email from MA support today:

We can confirm that we are still experiencing a delay with titles flowing between us and Google Play and until it is fixed any titles purchased will not port into your Google Play account. We are hoping this will be resolved soon and when it is the titles should sync with Google Play automatically.

In the interim we recommend watching newly purchased or redeemed titles until this gets resolved, in Movies Anywhere or another connected retailer. We appreciate your patience while our teams continue to investigate this matter.

Just now did a purchase of a couple of titles on iTunes. Everything ported through to MoviesAnywhere and then on to Google Play right away. Haven't tried to play them, mind you.

Can someone tell me how MA works (where its supported at least)

Is it a program that merges your movie libraries (iTunes, GP) into the same app? TIA

it basically joins your US movies together in one place (excluding certain studios - Paramount, MGM, Lionsgatge...)... So when you buy a title on itunes, it'll throw it to your Vudu/Fandango/MA/Google Play.

it's USA only - you can't join with a VPN or redeem behind a VPN. You'd need someone in the US to make you an account, or do it while over there.

i still primarily only use my itunes account, but use my MA when traveling

You CAN however use a proxy server that isn't a VPN to join. But free proxies are annoying to use because they are up and down constantly and you should use a frsh device that doesn't have connections to other services in case said proxies are there to harvest any unencrypted data of yours.

Oh also, they fixed the MA/GP connection you just have to detach then rejoin the account to kick it into gear.

Yes, Thanks! Disconnecting Google from MA, rebooting my laptop, then reconnecting Google to MA did fix the issue for me.
