Default Question about PCM, i have a PS3 and Pioneer surround system

Whenever i turned on my PS3, my surround sound used to display "PCM" and same with when i played movies. Now it does not... instead it just stays with whatever setting i had originally put. IE "Pro Logic" or "Stereo" etc.

Any suggestions? I checked my PS3 settings and they all say PCM, so that seems to be ok. Im not sure what the issue is.

Im not 100% sure, but I think you have one of the listening modes engaged on your receiver. Set it back to direct and see if you get PCM agian.

Sounds like you have the Fat PS3. When I had mine, sometimes I would have to go back into the audio settings in the PS3 and reselect all of the audio option.

I don't know why I would have to re-check everything again. It hasn't happened to me since I have the slim, not even after an update. I know I would have to recheck all the option after an update with my old FAT.

Yes i have the bulky PS3 that first came out. Ill check both of your guys suggestions. I do have it engaged in one of the listening modes, I was trying to figure out how to get it off that, so it can do the PCM.

Pioneers have a direct or pure direct button on the remote or front of the receiver, that should help get it off the listening mode.

Hope the OP doesnt mind me asking in here, but here goes. My buddy has a Yamaha receiver with a fat ps3 hooked up to it (HDMI), last night we ran Ypao and set everything up nicely. When he put in Battlefield 3 the display showed dolby digital. I know the fat ps3 cant bitrate HD audio codecs, but should atleast display multichannel audio or pcm on the display unit when watching a movie correct? Well heres the thing, the yamaha shows Neo 6 cinema, which made the movie sound awful. Ive demoed the incredible hulk many times in my setup and loved it. But with the dsp field showing neo 6 cinema the movie sounded awful. I tried to hit the direct button but all it did was give us two channels left and right... Any way to turn off the dsp field? Thanks guys.
