Default Hardcore/Extreme Violence in Cinema

(flame suit on)

As a long time film fanatic, I have always been a horror film fan and love the genre. I like to watch things that scare me and feel it's a bit of a "ride" if done right. Recently, I have been in a very dark place due to the death of a loved one. Ironically (or not so ironically) I stumbled onto a few films that would fall under the category of "Extreme" violence. I do love films that are thought provoking but I honestly think it's no coincidence I found these films when I did.

I think these films have an audience but I honestly think the reasons the film makers (and people that watch these "films") make these types of films are mostly bs!

Like the Director of A Serbian Film trying to say his reasoning behind the movie is to show how the government has been raping their people from birth. I think this is just an excuse to make such a shocking film and the people that defend it seem to think they are of "higher intelligence" (i.e. if YOU didn't like the film (or rail against it), you didn't "get it").

I just think the people that watch these types of films are watching for exactly what it is.....SHOCKING! What exactly was the point or reason to make a film such as Aftermath? I also don't think it's a conincidence most of these films come from other countries. I like a challenge as much as the next guy but regardless of how you defend it (hey, it's only a movie), to watch such images, in ANY form, is NOT healthy to ones mind. Do I think somebody will go out and commit such atrocities?...maybe not. I still don't believe it's healthy or productive for anybody.
