Optimum's 10th Anniversary Blu-Ray Editions - Blu-ray Forum

Hi,

I tried searching but I couldn't find any discussions regarding these releases.

In short, a while back Optimum released 10 different movies with "exclusive sleeves" through HMV (they were priced at just 10-11 pounds each):

Pan's Labyrinth
This is England
The Orphanage
Wolf Creek
Elephant
Three Burials
Persepolis
Nine Songs
Switchblade Romance
Brick

As far as I know they feature the same discs as the original UK releases and the "exclusive sleeve" isn't that special anyway (it's partly in silver, feature some info about Optimum's anniversary + the movie number, 1-10). Most of them are still available online or through HMV's brick-and-mortar stores.

And oh, by the way, personally I miss Brick and Pan's Labyrinth. I visited Newcastle-upon-Tyne the past weekend and looked through two separate HMV stores without finding them. They're sold out on HMV.com too. If anyone owns a copy of either and would consider selling them to me, I'd be very happy

Yeah I noticed these a while back.

I only went for the ones that I both like and prefer the artwork to, so I only have Elephant and This Is England.

I like the others, I just prefer their original sleeves. Can't believe Pan's Labyrinth and Brick have sold out already though! Two amazing films.

I held off getting Brick because I'm hoping for an upcoming release that isn't just bare bones.

I would also say try some different HMV stores, because I saw Brick today in my local one for £11 with an Optimum cover.

Most of them appear to be available on HMV.com for £7.99

If you search Blu ray for the word exclusive, they come up on the second page for me

True but if you check, Brick and Pan's Labyrinth are unavailable.

Thanks for the suggestion. I contacted them but they told me:

In order to obtain a copy of this title, it would unfortunately require a visit to the store directly to make the purchase."

They've been on eBay many many times -but the fact that fact is being posted (and then replied to) on an open forum will lessen your chances of getting one.

Let this thread die and then wait.

Most of the series is lacklustre anyway (and no different to the other dirt cheap versions) and I'm not sure why anyone would want to collect them, although I realise people who collect things like collecting

Is the actual artwork different as well, or does it just come with a slip sleeve with the preexisting artwork?

I believe the slipcover is a different image from the normal cover (I think I've seen the This Is England one, and it just has a sort of animated picture of the kid in the cover). The covers on the plastic case underneath the slipcover also have an annoying grey strip along the top saying 'optium' - eg with Wolf Creek:

So you can see on that, the artwork is different even underneath the sleeve... but I'm not sure that's the same for every one...

On their website, even for the ones they still have, they don't seem to show the case with the slipcover.

Well the title I am interested in is Elephant, and I was just curious as to if that yellow artwork was just on the slip sleeve or not. If the artwork is the same as the previous release, I will just buy that instead and save a bit of money.

No they have no slipcovers, the artwork is completely different. I went for Elephant too, it looks much better than the original except for the silver bar across the top.
