United Kingdom Strictly Ballroom -rerelease November 2011

Old release

Great wee film this. I really like the old ITV Blu-ray https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Stric...y/1176/#Review so I'm not sure what we'll get off 20th Century Fox. If they have some nice special features I'll buy it.

Fantastic film from Oz. Luhrmann's best.

wow, I just can't figure ITV out.
wish they would figure out where they are going as far as blu-ray.
anyway, another member got this one for me from an ebay.UK auction because it had become so expensive so I guess I I went through a lot of effort for nothing.
as it appeared all the ITV bds were going OOP, I spent a lot of time tracking most of them down from sellers, etc., but now they are all available again on amazon.
make up your damn mind ITV!
(and come out with the rest of the restored Lean films while you're at it)

I think ITV are essentially bankrupt so they'll be selling off anything they can to pay their debts (owed to the UK tax payer of course).

ITV own some great back catalogue from Beyond Films, Granada and lots of other companies and if someone came along and bought it -that would I hope be a good thing. Problem is ITV have been selling off stuff that shows up in Poundland and those 4 movie sets for £2.99. Here's hoping they're forced to break up their business soon.

As for the ITV Strictly Ballroom the price did go to £40+ but I've seen it for £5 and even £3 in my local pawn shop. It' just takes a wee bit of time sometimes to find this stuff. The UPC is your best bet usually 5037115291233.

I have the beautiful hardbox of this on DVD. It's from the same source as the Blu-ray obviously but those very minor special features may never be seen again.

wow, well I really hope some entity than cares about releasing the ITV catalog on bd takes control because the Lean films really need to come out.
In Which We Serve is essential.
they also have some essential Powell/Pressburger films that also really need to be released on blu.
I will always admire ITV for stepping up and releasing those 1940's classics on bd before basically every other company in the world. I really thought they were going to be one of the best UK studios for bd, but I guess it just wasn't to be.

Sadly, they just don't have the money after years of bank-funded madness buying stuff they should never of touched .

They have a very attractive back catalogue for sure: (Rank, ITC, MGM-Pathé/Granada/United British Artists and 1000+ other films and of course a real gold mine of TV material). They have loads of TV drama full length films I'd love on Blu-ray.

Obviously, ITV do still make lots of money from parts of their business so we may see another name change and new owners. I don't like the "ITV" name so it'll not be missed.

would this re-release be a new blu ray transfer?

Judging from the review of the initial release, it was pretty average.

Default Dreadful transfer

Unfortunately this new release has a dreadful transfer. Soft, and no better (maybe even worse) than standard DVD. Only a Dolby Digital sound option. I don't think there are any changes from the previous release here except the cover.
Very disappointing!
