This is long, you've been warned.
Possibly in 2011 for the Sony owned titles in the U.S. Then again, it's rumor. Supposedly, on the Toho Kingdom forums, a member contacted Mike Schlesinger who produced the Godzilla DVD releases for Sony here in the U.S. The member asked if the Heisei films that they owned the rights too would be re-released with the original Japanese audio with English subs and in Widescreen. Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah and Godzilla & Mothra: The Battle For Earth were released on DVD in Full Screen with English 2.0 audio and no subtitles. And Godzilla Vs Spacegodzilla, Godzilla Vs Destoroyah, and Godzilla 2000 were released on DVD with just English dubbing. Given that Toho just released the last four films of the Heisei series last week possibly means that Sony could strike up HD prints from the film prints they own and give us those Heisei films on Blu-ray. If Sony wanted to release Blu-ray releases, they could, but most likely they would be missing Japanese audio like the previous Heisei titles and Godzilla 2000. The reason why those titles were missing Japanese audio was because Sony released them on DVD before Toho released it on DVD in their home country so they had to remove the Japanese audio by Toho's request so Japanese citizens wouldn't import the US releases instead of buying Japanese. Sony owns the following titles: Godzilla Vs The Sea Monster Son of Godzilla Godzilla Vs Hedorah (The Smog Monster) Godzilla Vs Gigan Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah Godzilla & Mothra: The Battle For Earth Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla II Godzilla Vs Spacegodzilla Godzilla Vs Destoroyah Godzilla 2000 Godzilla X Megaguirus GMK Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. Godzilla: Final Wars If they wanted too, right now; they could release the following on Blu-ray: Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah Godzilla & Mothra: The Battle For Earth Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla II Godzilla Vs Spacegodzilla Godzilla Vs Destoroyah Godzilla X Megaguirus GMK Godzilla: Final Wars Supposedly the Blu-ray for Gojira was a failure to Classic Media. So, nothing has been announced by them; given that Mothra Vs Godzilla and Ghidorah, the Three Headed Monster are being released in two months in Japan. The only studio that could release a Godzilla title is Universal. The own the exclusive rights to King Kong Vs Godzilla and the non-Godzilla film King Kong Escapes to whole world except the Asian countries. But, it would only be the 90 minute English version for KKvsG. Even though Universal only owns the English version, it's in much better shape than the Japanese version due to poor handling by Toho through the years. Still, the only films that probably won't get a U.S. release anytime soon is Godzilla Vs Megalon, Godzilla 1985, and Godzilla Vs Biollante. Your best bet for Godzilla '85 and Godzilla Vs Biollante would be for a Hong Kong release since Universe Laser owns the rights. Universe Laser owns the rights from Godzilla 1985 to Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla. I believe Deltamac owns the rights to Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. and they do own the rights to Godzilla: Final Wars. But the Delatmac release of Godzilla: Final Wars didn't have English subtitles on the DVD, but it did have Japanese DTS which isn't actually present on the Japanese R2 DVD. Final note: Destroy All Monsters is owned by Section 23 since A.D.V. Video went bankrupt. A lot of Toho titles that A.D.V. owned reverted back to Toho, like Gunhead, Hypnosis (The Hypnotist), and Parasite Eve. But, Section 23 owns what A.D.V. owned on Destroy All Monsters which is just the International Dubbed version of the film. I hope that helps. |

Godzilla 1985 in my opinion has the best Godzilla suit by far in my opinion. I dunno that movie brings Godzilla back to his roots destorying buildings with him as the only monster in the movie just like in Gojira. I haven't seen the japanese version but from what I've been reading it's 1000% better than the american especially due to the Dr. Pepper advertising :: >
