I noticed that the UK disc is region free and released by Sony instead of Universal. Does anyone have the disc and/or know if the transfer is the same or better than the Universal disc? Thanks.

It's a different transfer.
There was a comparison floating about, but I'll be damned if I can remember where, or what the favoured release was.
