Exclamation “The hard disc file is corrupted and will be restored.”

My mate is having problems with his PS3..

When he switched it on yesterday, it warned him that the system was not turned off correctly when last used. It loaded up, but took a lot longer than normal.

When it finally brought him to the XMB, the controller wouldn’t allow him to select anything and all the icons for various apps looked liked they were loading, but never actually showed.

After about 40 minutes, he still had no control over the system and so held down the power button. That did nothing. He had no choice but to unplug it and reboot it.

When it turned back on it said “The hard disc file is corrupted and will be restored.”

It starts to restore, but freezes at 14% every time it tries to restore and returns to the warning “The hard disc file is corrupted and will be restored.”

It’s 2 years old, and he wouldn’t be a heavy user, so it’s not used all that often.

Any suggestions as to what might be wrong? And ideas how to resolve?

Cheers guys
