Hello,
I have a fat 60gig PS3 and it played blu-ray movies fine up intill i updated the game Killzone 2. After I did the update to Killzone 2 which I think was a update for 3D for the game now when I play a blu-ray movie with an aspect ratio of 1.33:1-1.85:1 i'll get this flickering on the bottom of the screen that comes and goes. When a play a movie thats in a 2.35:1 aspect ratio or DVD movies or games it's fine. So anyone have this problem? |

Doubt it's related to a KZ2 update, or do you mean a system firmware update? Did the specific movie you're talking about work before? Can you try playing that specific movie on another TV and/or another BD player? Try to narrow down where the problem is coming from.

No, it was not from the firmware update. This started right after the game update Killzone 2 v1.22 which I think was a update for 3D for the game because right after the game restarted the game menu came back up and was all flashy in like double vision like it was in 3D mode for a second and then it went to normal. After this that is when the movies stated to get the flickering like I said above. All the movies work fine on the other blu-player. I'm going to try and delete the game updates and see if that is the problem. |

The kz2 update causing it is as unlikely as air brushing off of a buterfly flapping by your home, causing the set of events that triggered an engineer to slip and accidently make changes to the ps3 kernal while proramming the kz2 patch.
Suggestions: Check your cords /hmdi cords while viewing content and see if you get any distortion or if improvement occurs, ive had some hdmi cords do this where they were slipping or dieing or whatever they do. Check both the ps3 end and the end connected to the tv. Check your ps3 settings during playback, change settings see if there is a setting that improves the situation, but before you do write down all your settings so you can return them later. Next thing to try if you another tv try plugging it into it and see if it does the same thing, this will allow you to find out if its the ps3 side or the tv side. Sometimes it the bead of rice that breaks the camels back. |

Usually to diagnose a problem it's better to narrow down the problem before jumping to conclusions and picking a random event as the cause. Figure out if the problem is related to a piece of hardware (TV, PS3, cables, Blu-Ray, etc) by replacing them with other pieces that are known to work.
Note that Killzone 2 does not support 3D and the patch 1.22 came out almost 2 years ago. |
