Nice news, The Fisher King is an excellent film. To Die For and Absensce of Malice are other great films. Hopefully Fearless can come soon.

If you mean Peter Weir's Fearless, than I concur!

Did that even get a widescreen release on DVD?

Finally!!! I don't who went to the theater to see this movie but I remember going to the local theater to see this movie and I have to say that I think this is one of Robin Williams finest performances.

I loved that scene where Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges are in the middle of Central Park and they're laying on their back, and notice that Robin Williams is naked:

I think I saw this like 4 times at the theater, and it's one of those that I will now have had on 4 formats: VHS, LD, DVD, and BD

It really is one of the best films that Williams ever made, and this one came out long before Good Will Hunting. I don't know, for some reason I like Williams' dramatic films a lot better than I do his comedy movies. The Fisher King, Good Will Hunting, Good Morning Vietnam ... these are all some of Williams' best films. It's just a shame that he hasn't done very many serious films.

He still does plenty of dramas as well: Insomnia, One Hour Photo, Final Cut, August Rush, House of D, Night Listener

but yeah, his comedy schtick kinda got old, plus his choices of comedy projects in recent years has been horrible (Old Dogs, License to Wed, ...).

Fisher King is by far his best work. He was nominated for Oscar for it, too.

It would be nice if Sony had licensed Criterion's audio commentary and gave it to Image, seeing as there are at least two Sony Blus with Criterion commentaries so far.

No, never did. I really liked Bridges in both of these and The Big Lebowski.

Nov Sony/Image slate I think is the best yet. The Collector!, To Die For, Absence of Malice, and Fisher King.

Still wishing for a Sony or Sony/IMAGE release for Stone's U-Turn!

Since Image also distributes Criterion, this would seem like a relatively easy deal to get done... maybe someday...

Quote:
In Arthurian legend, there is a story of the Fisher King. To summarize, a guardian of the Holy Grail is injured as a result of his inability to resist this sacred treasure. As he grows older, he searches for redemption. Parsifal (hence the name of Robin Williams' character "Parry" in the film) helps the guardian (also called the Fisher King) redeem himself.

The red knight is an enemy of King Arthur, whom Parsifal slays. In the film, the Red Knight represents Parry's hidden pain and emotional tragedy. They do not mention this but is clearly there.
The Red Knight represents Robin Williams characters dissociation from reality and the inability to identify with others, and not simply his own hidden pain and emotional tragedy.

Hence later we have The Sixth Sence (1999), where Haley Jole Summit must come to terms with his hallucinations that are of the past, and while he uses dissociation (hiding in a tent, or a church, pretending to be a knight) to deal with his problems.

The color red also is commonly being used.

WHat he sees inside the church with his army, his knight's sword, and what he is pretending inside the tent are not real.
