Default Painting.

My walls will be dark grey (behr ash) I think the paint is called. I want to make the ceiling and the screen wall black. Should I go with entire ceiling being black or should I just paint couple feet away from the screen black? If just a couple feet will siffice is it actualy a couple feet or more like 10 feet which is now a few?
Not sure what to do here. Also any idea of which kind of a paint to use for black?

You're around the corner from me... I'm in burlington... I highly recommend the Benjamin Moore Flat Black... great paint, goes on nice and smooth, buy a nice roller and you won't see strokes, if your ceiling is well primed I think it can even go on in a single coat... I painted my ceiling just a couple of weeks ago and it looks great.

Thanx for the paint idea.
Do you think its better the paint entire ceiling or just 3-4 feet from screen will do?

If it is a dedicated room then I'd paint the whole ceiling, if the room is multipurpose I'd consider a couple of feet if it didn't look too odd, but I think the consensus would be to paint the whole ceiling.

How much of a difference does it make in PQ for those of you with PJs and dedicated screens to have the ceiling a darker color? Ours is white and I've never really seen what the problem could be but I read a lot of statements like "I wish I had gone a darker color in hindsight...".

For me there is less distraction from the reflection of light off the ceiling from the screen. The PQ might be a little better but it is the reflections that make the difference for me.

This is when my ceiling was white.

Here is what it is like now with a dark gray ceiling. A darker room is much better then having lighter shades in the room.

I went from a White ceiling, to a very light shade of grey.... although it wasn't a "Dark" color, I painted it with a very Flat finish, and the difference was pretty big.

My walls are dark navy too.

Don't mind the dust blobs

Ok so first ooooppppssssss......... whoever told me to paint before the construction is done was sooooooooooooo wrong. Dust from floor, baseboard and trims installation all over. Walls scraped with white baseboard paint. Ceiling dings all over from swinging doors/trim etc.
What does this mean? I need to get two more can of paint (ceiling and walls) and repaint or do major touch ups. Sucks but live and learn. If I will be doing this next time the only thing I will do i prime the walls.

Oh man... hope I didn't give you that advice... because if I did I didn't listen to it Especially with a dark colour, it shows drywall dust like crazy.

It's critically important to go with a dark paint with minimal reflection. The clear recommendation is to go black with the ceiling but this is such an "ugly" color most of the time (IMHO). I used a dark purple matte paint in my home theater. Also, the ceiling anlges up so there is minimal direct reflection towards me.

Pay attention to the finish - you want matte. A glossy black still reflects.
