So not sure if this is the right spot for this rant, but here we go. For those that don't know CEX is a chain of shops where you can trade in blu-rays/DVD's for cash or credit. There is one in downtown Boston that I frequent a bit. The best thing about CEX is that you can see the trade in value on their website, so you usually know in advance what you are getting. In this case I was trading in a Tron Legacy Blu for $7 credit, as I had recently upgraded to the 3D. It had a slipcover so I included it when I was trading it in. I was astounded when the salesperson threw the slipcover in the bin. I explained to him that slipcovers actually add more value to the product, he was just "they get in the way on the shelves". Crazy that a place that makes a living selling on used blu-rays would not realize the value of slipcovers. In the end he gave the slipcover back to me, as I couldn't let it just be binned. So if anybody is looking for a Tron Legacy slip, let me know. I'd be happy to mail for the cost of postage.

I agree. I like the fact that you know what you can get for trade in before you go in, and they also have a really good selection at decent prices. I bought Friday night Lights/ The Express double feature for $3, and Doctor Who Season 7 Part 1 for $8 today.
Mind you still would have liked a slipcover with my Boxtrolls 3D a couple of months back ![]() |

If they say no and I really want it I just go "ok, well I'll just trade it back in then". So then I buy it, tell them not to bother putting the disc in, take the slip off and say "can I trade this in please!" Depending on the item the slip will cost me a different amount but the average trade-in for credit price against their selling price is about £2. Less on low priced items of course. |

I had a look in CEX yesterday.... the state of some boxes baffles me. What do people do with them before trading them? Play frisbee with the dog?

Totally this, even if the blu-ray shows up on release day in CEX some of them look so battered you wonder how they find the time to batter it so much before handing it into CEX!

Was in the Boston one today. Still at it. There was a mint Shaun the sheep slip sitting on top of the bin. Saw minions 3D and hotel Transylvania 2 3D in there weeks after release. Both sitting on the shelves without slips. Bad business management if you don't realize that collectors like us will pay more for blus with slips.
