Wonder if they'll time a Spy Kids 3-D release with it.

Probably cos the studio has accepted that it is a flop with disastrous opening weekend takings across the US ... something like $11 mill

Those movies are fairly cheap to make from what I understand. It will likely make it's money back. It feel into the end of summer dumping ground along with Fright Night and Conan The Barbarian.

It's been up at Amazon for a while - at least a week prior to the opening weekend.

The 3D in both Spy Kids 3 and Shark Boy & Lava Girl is very, very good - so I'd expect the 3D presentation in this one to be great.

Hey I just watched the trailer and it seems a good movie for my kid. Oops but then again, Panasonic don't have 3D glasses for kids.

In this particular case, Sharkboy and Lavagirl will look wrong in the Blu-Ray 3D format.

The movie was designed for anaglyph. The color the movie states her hair is matches the color you see when viewing it in anaglyph, but does not match it when viewng in 2D or non-anaglyph 3D.

despite the director's own statements about his 3D movies.

Sharkboy and Lavagirl would look super in Blu-Ray 3D. It was one of only a handful must-see releases in the Sensio and Field Sequential active 3D DVD formats (the precursors to today's Blu-ray 3D tech). Rodriquez messed around with the color timing for the theatrical anaglyph presentations - but that was not his preferred 3D format.

You can see for yourself - it works with many 3D TVs that do SBS:

A lot of people seem to pan this film, but the trailer doesn't look THAT bad.

I preordered it from amazon.

Came in today. With cooking etc this week, I don't know when I'll get to watching it, but I'm excited.
I'd wanted to see it in 3D in theaters, but most of them were only playing it in 2D (which I took to be kind of a sad sign for those of us that like the format). Good thing my projector HT is setup. 100" screen in a basement will be pretty immersive. If only I could find the remote to lower the screen...

I had never seen a BD3D disc advertised so discreetly as it is on this. Having it listed on the back and in the bottom left corner makes it seem like an after thought (which isn't what I'd be emphasizing with 3D, as after-thought 3D has a bad rap). Oh well.
Still pretty excited. Wish a 3D release of Spy Kids 3(-D) had coincided with this release, but I'll keep waiting I guess.

Indeed, four-day holiday coming up soon. I'll try to watch this and Conan the Barbarian on 3D tonight (both blind buys). Missed them at the theaters, too. But will definitely catch Hugo 3D at the theaters tomorrow night!
