Default Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) fan thread

Hi everyone,

I thought it would be fun to make a thread for ILM fans such as myself.

Here, I'd like to discuss movies of the past, present and future that features or will feature ILM in the end credits.

What is your favorite work of ILM, or your favorite film ILM was involved in?

What is your favorite character they have done, and why, etc.?

What is their weakest film in terms of VFX, and why do you think so?

Be kindly reminded, that this isn't an ILM vs. Weta thread, or something like this.

I have more than 60 films on Blu-ray, that ILM worked on, mostly as the major vendor.

They have done so many great characters, and VFX.

Rango really blew me away.

Davy Jones in the POTC is absolutely amazing as well.

It's far too many great examples to mention, and much easier to point out the disappointments.

To me, the Scorpion king in The Mummy Returns (climax) was unacceptable.
That was truly beneath them, and a perfect example of a bad call.
They should have done it as they did in the next Steven Sommer VFX extravaganza "Van Helsing", where they used the heads of the real actresses, and attached their CG bodies of the vampire brides to them.
I know they had very little time left in the case of TMR, and of the 800+ VFX in the movie ILM only did about 350+shots, but it's no excuse.

I'm currently most excited about Pacific Rim, which appears to have ILM as the sole effects house for the VFX. That's a true rarity these days, where there are so many different effects houses working on those mega blockbusters, so I am very much looking forward to seeing it.

Also, I don't like the Transformer movies, even though I own the first one, because of the fantastic VFX, but the characters make me cringe all the time.

My hope is, that Pacific Rim will be a perfect showcase of ILM's creature work, and hard surface work. I think it's going to be epic, and the first reviews/impressions have been overwhelmingly positive, not only towards the VFX, but also the film in general.

It seems to be very difficult for some reason to make a good film with great VFX. It's mostly one or the other.

Of course, I am also looking forward to the new Star Trek film coming out in May.

For the future, I hope to see another Tornado/Twister film, as the raw, untamed power of nature is something wonderful to witness on the big screen, and the thing they can do now, would be make this incredible, I think.

I very much enjoy the original Twister, but some shots do look dated now, of course. They have definitely refined their particle simulations, well, pretty much everything, so I would like to see water tornadoes, fire tornadoes, and F5 tornadoes that blow us away (cheap pun, I know).

I wouldn't mind another storm movie either.

I could go on and on about it, but what about you?

Have fun discussing. Hope there are some ILM fans on here.

PS: If there already is such a thread, then I am sorry, and please merge it with the existing one.
