I went through a Le Carre spell where I read all his books. Smiley is one of the great characters of the spy genre and TTSS is a pretty good story. The miniseries is worth a watch though, like the book, it's a bit muddled. This story is 100% Cold War, which ended over 20 years ago, so the kids may not get it. But there's a lot of potential, especially if the polish the story a bit, so I'll certainly be checking it out. Thanks for the heads up.

I very much like the original, this looks just as good...if not better!
This looks like how a reboot should be done. No heavy dependance on CGI, just good actors and good writing!

I'm sure the kids will be entirely disinterested, either way.

And the film hasn't been watered down to get the friendlier rating: It's rated R in the USA and a '15' cert in the UK, so hopefully this will mean more adults and less kids in the theater.

USA: Rated R for
[Show spoiler]violence, some sexuality/nudity and language

UK: [The film was classified '15' for]
[Show spoiler]strong language, sex, violence and bloody injury detail [sic]

I'm just sad that I have to wait until November 18th to see it over here. It will be out September 16th in the UK.

I haven't been this excited for a film getting a wide American release in a long while. I ordered the new UK DVD set of the Smiley BBC miniseries with Alec Guinness as I have yet to see them--hopefully, that should be enough to tide me over until the film version.

It's not been posted yet in here so I thought I'll all tell you the film has been pushed back a month into December to hit the Oscar audience more
