Your system is capable of playing SACDs. By default, it is worth it!

When I got my Sony BDP-S580, one of the first things I did was start grabbing SACDs, and I'm very happy.

If your BD player can play SACDs why not just buy an SACD or two to find out? A good place to check for reviews is http://sa-cd.net/.

Listen to Why Worry first and just sit back and close your eyes. This is SACD.

Great advice and if you're a Floyd fan, or even a casual listener you owe it to yourself to get Wish You Were Here (Dark Side of the Moon can be had for quite cheap also). Sit down, dim the lights (or off) and just soak in the album, you'll discover how good your system is.

That song blew me away the first time I heard it in surround! Great choice!

I agree with pentatonic, these are excellent choices. Don't be too disappointed in the lack of availability and with the limited number of titles for some of discs you might want. Some of the prices are a bit out there too.

Check to see if your player plays DVD-A. I've recently found a few titles in this format that are either unavailable or ridiculously expensive in SACD. I recently picked up Brain Salad Surgery by ELP in DVD-A 5.1 surround. Sounds amazing!

He's got a Sony BD player, it won't play DVD-As.

I strongly recommend trying out a few SACDs. I second the recommendation for Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. The latter is the best high resolution surround album I've ever heard. Also Elton's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is excellent. And if you want something slightly newer, the Downward Spiral by NIN is quite good in surround on SACD.

So if i understand that album it is a hybrid disc, it has both the HD layer and a regular CD layer. From what i read there is no way to pop in the disc into a computer and listen to the HD layer?

And as far as my home audio setup is concerned if there are 2 layers how will my system know which one to play?

It's not possible to listen to SACD on your PC, only the CD layer as you read. For your system, usually you have a choice in the setup to tell it to default to either CD or SACD stereo or MC. You can also just toggle between both mixes with your remote afterwards.

Great news now go get Wish You Were Here on SACD, Get your picks while they are cheap, they are produced mostly in limited numbers and get expensive quite fast. I know I paid what I always thought was way too much for my original Purple Machine Head, but what an experience.
