Australia Aspect Ratio Switching to IMAX

I've been reading a bit about Blu-rays where the OAR swtiches to 1.78:1 to show off scenes enhanced for IMAX. I've got TRON: Legacy where it does it and I would like to know:

What's the point??

It's to the give the viewers the original experience as presented theatrically. Plus Imax footage is freaking awesome on Blu-Ray... I wish more films were released that way on Blu-Ray.

I have a scope screen so I don't notice the Aspect Ratio changes

Wow...I think there's something wrong with your 100" screen. Or your eyes.

The IMAX sequences in TDK look absolutely stunning...the 35mm footage is riddled with edge enhancement and other digital bugaboos.

I'm pretty sure TRON Legacy actually does it from artistic purposes, like to show the difference between the real world and the TRON world.

Similar to the theatrical release of Disney's Brother Bear, where after his transformation into a bear, the ratio changes.

Wow I am really surprised at this. For me there is a noticeable difference between the Imax scenes and the non Imax scenes

Agreed - huge difference. The IMAX portions of The Dark Knight are stunning. The regular 35mm portions suffer from edge enhancement and boosted contrast. It gives those sections a pretty harsh look in comparison to the ultra fine detail in the IMAX shots.

As for shots, yes the prologue is IMAX as are most of the establishing aerial shots. A good portion of the action shots from the Batpod sequence are also IMAX.
