Default 7.1?

When I was playing NBA 2k8 on the ps I didnt think it was 7.1 because I didnt hear anything from the SB speakers (hooked up though hdmi for uncompressed sound). When I listened closely I heard some small sound coming from my SB speakers but they were like grunts from the players and the sound when the players hit the floor when they came down from jumping. I thought 7.1 has the crowd noise and the music in the arena on it like the Side speakers do. Is that all the sound that comes from the SB speakers?

More than likely your reciever was matrixing the sound into those speakers.

Are you sure that NBA 2K8 is in 7.1? CNET's specs say it is just in DD 5.1.

I couldn't find the specs for the PS3 version but the XBOX360 version is 5.1 so they're probably both 5.1
