Default Region Free Video Games, Same as a Blu Ray Movie?

Hi All,

Earlier today I was looking at a PS3 game on Ebay that happens to be the UK version. It is going for about $6 (+$20 shipping) compared to $50 for the US version.

Is there anything I should be concerned about? Or will this play just fine in my PS3 slim and is essentially the same as the US version? Just currious.

Yes. This is true.

However, there is one caveat that you probably won't encounter: if you aren't going to play the game in HD resolution (720p, 1080i, 1080p), make sure the title supports NTSC, or you won't be able to see anything.

There is one more thing you have to watch out for: Downloadable content.

For the vast majority of PS3 games, if there are downloadable add-ons or other content for a game, the DLC is region-specific. So if you're in North America and import a game from the UK, you can NOT purchase DLC from the North American PSN store and have it work on your UK disc; you need the DLC from the EU PSN store.

Not every game has DLC, and even of the ones that do, a lot of it is useless fluff, but in a few cases it can be important (i.e. Borderlands).
