Default A Nightmare on Elm Street - Complete Set

This is available in Australia. At JB Hi-fi, and that's the only place I've seen it.

But, I have not bought it. Why? Well, a couple of reasons...

1. This isn't listed on this site at all. The first three came out slowly, I imagine the rest are on the way. But I have no confirmation that the others have been released/remastered in HD.

2. There's two movies on each disk. This seems a little dodgy. I know they're ninety minute films, and all three and a half hours of King Kong fit on one disk with glorious HD resolution, but still, I smell something fishy...

So, my question is; Is this a real BD? Has anyone outside of Australia (or even outside of JB Hi-fi shoppers) heard of this? I don't want to waste my money on a bunch of DVD quality films published on a BD, when the real thing comes out at some later date in the future.

Thanks all.

A region-free box set has been available in the UK since this past October...

Wow! Thank you!
That's the one!
Shows how good at searching I am...

Do you own this, Mondo? Is it an improvement over the DVD set?

I have the UK release, which should be the same as the Australian release, and I can tell you that you have nothing to worry about when buying it. The disc breakdown is like this: Disc 1: Part 1 (same exact disc as the standalone release of Part 1...same transfer, same extras, same everything...only difference is the disc art). Disc 2: Parts 2 and 3 (these are all BD-50's, so it's not farfetched to see 2 movies on a BD-50 with no extras, and still have the HD quality you'd expect from Blu-ray...plus, the US release of 2 and 3 is also on one disc...so this is basically the same disc as that, just with different disc art again...more than likely, if parts 4-7 get releases down the line, they'll be nothing more than the same discs featured on the UK and Australian Complete Collection). Disc 3: Parts 4 and 5, Disc 4: Parts 6 and 7. Disc 5 is a DVD disc which has the remaining extras. The extras are pretty much carried over from the 1999 box set, but also contains one new featurette, and 2 episodes of Freddy's Nightmares.

If you enjoy the movies, then the set is a no-brainer...definitely get it. You won't regret your purchase...

My pleasure. Easy enough to miss. No, I haven't imported it as of yet, but I've heard good things. I'm kind of on the fence since I have the first 3, so I may just end up waiting.

Excellent! Thanks guys!

Got bills at the moment, plus Transformers 3 and Star Wars 3D come out on the same day in a couple of weeks, but in the weeks following that this should be in my collection!

I also have this. Leap and bounds better than the DVD, with the exception of New Nightmare which isn't much better than the DVD picture quality wise. Other than that, it's a solid set.

And don't worry, all the discs are going to be the same as we might get in the States eventually. The disc for 2 and 3 have been confirmed to be the same between the single US release and the boxed set in the UK.

EDIT: Oh, except for the final disc which is for supplemental material (there's supplemental material across the blu-rays too though), and that DVD of special features IS a PAL DVD.

I wanted to pull the trigger on this, but I have decided to wait for the US release for the following reasons.

1. Based on reviewes of the UK set, people are saying part 4 is VERY dark, so I am hoping that is fixed for the US release/

2. This is the biggest reason, I really hope that the "Never Sleep Again" Doc. is included. That is an amazing Documentary and it would be a great addition to the "Complete" box.
