I haven't actually beat the first yet. Something happened and my saves got all messed up. Need to start over again sometime soon.

I'm thinking about ordering the book.

You may have had the same problem I had. Are you receiving corrupt messages when you try to load a saved game?

No. Somehow my saves just straight up disappeared and I was left with older saves. It set me back to the beginning of chapter 2 and I was half way through chapter 3. My character didn't even have the same build. Nobody else even touches my computer so it was really confusing and frustrating so I just stopped playing.

I borrowed the Witcher from my brother, but since I have Windows 7 all I got was corrupt issues, and after Googling the problem it just seemed like a big hassle to get it to work. Bummed me out for sure.

Anyways, the Witcher 2 looks awesome! I'm excited!

Weird i have 7 64bit and it workd perfectly..

I'm too am running Windows 7 64bit and the game runs fine on my system. But I will say that I did have some issues with corrupt files when I ported the game from my Windows XP 32bit machine to another machine running Windows Vista 64.

The first game was awesome. You can pick it up dirt cheap right now. If you're thinking about picking the first game up make sure you get the "Enhanced Edition".

I find that the 1st game combat is too simplistic for me. I hope the combat will improve in the 2nd game.

I used to frequent a gaming site and won an event GOG.com was hosting, and ended up getting a free download from them. Great site, and the DRM free games are great! I wish more companies would take the initiative and do that. I would purchase from GOG.com, and I hope others would as well - even if you may not have heard of it. I'm glad to hear this piece of news.

I love GOG. I've bought a few games from them including Duke Nukem 3D which is still as awesome as it was 15 years ago. Right now it's also an RPG haven with Baldur's gate, planescape, icewind dale etc available. CD Projekt, who make the Witcher games run gog.com.

I think most developers want drm-free games and get mad when they are laced with drm. I read plenty of articles on how the publishers want these harsh drm schemes, not them. It's too bad. Steam is reasonable if you must have a drm scheme but the problem is that many games on steam have securom and other drm tacked on top. When you have to run two game clients for certain games (GWFL, Steam) plus securom registry entries, talk about overkill.

For those who don't blow that kind of cash on a single game and don't mind owning a digital copy, head over to Direct2Drive. Until monday by using promo code HOHOHO (or RUDOLPH in the uk/eu), pre-order Witcher 2 for $35.96 USD instead of $44.95 USD. Note Witcher 2 only comes out May 17 2011
