Default Lowry-type restoration on 'Mad Max' (1979), doubt

Hey guys, a technical question:

Given the ultra/mega microscopical budget of the first 'Mad Max' and its poor parameters (cheap film stock, ages and whatever), do you think a Lowry-type treatment could improve the already great masters we got with MGM and ROADSHOW and their 2 blu-ray releases?

Probably not unless Mad Max was restored. It was remastered for the BD release because it really needed it, but it also needs a restoration and that costs quite a bit of money. Honestly, I just wish Warner would give us Thunderdome so I can have the trilogy on BD.

Thunderdome is my fave sci-fi/action movie of all time.

Said that, I'm surprised Roadshow didn't put some money on a complete restoration... will they ever do that to Mad Max 1 anyway in the future to come? I sense the answer is negative.

Didn't MGM put up the money for the Mad Max remastering? I am actually surprised it was released at all seeing as MGM has been in financial trouble for a few years now.

i doubt the difference would be revelatory, but sure... if anyone wants to pay to remaster it in 4K from the negative, which I doubt.
"cheap film stock" isn't really an issue since it was shot on the same Kodak stock as everything out of Hollywood at the time. whether it was stored properly is another question...

Too bad nobody is gonna pay for that, since this is - along with the two magnificent sequels - one of the most influential films of all time.

ANYWAY, the Australian film registry retains super-pristine and restored source tapes for each Mad Max movie. Not yet digitized...

Bad news, very bad.

An Australian fan confirmed they used a 2004 HD master they aired on TV long eons ago.

Stupid MGM.

After what we went through to get the blu-ray? No, I don't think that will ever happen.

United Kingdom mad max U.S. vs Austrailia vs UK?

I am wondering could anyone tell my best bet for Mad Max as i want to order it but i have just watched some youtube reviews from Austrailia saying how poor the Extra features were on it? And the U.S. version seems to have loads on it and after reading the posts on here am confused on what to get i only wish we had this availible in the U.K.

The U.S. version is indeed the best version. The problem is that it is region A locked like most MGM titles.
