Default Better Value? Sony's PlayStation 3 or Microsoft's Elite 360

thought this was interesting: but how good are all those cables that come with the elite? and who needs composite and component cables? and an hdmi cable? are they just trying to stuff more stuffing into the turcky?

Quote:
Actual Cost of an Xbox 360 Elite with everything offered by PlayStation 3: Actual Cost of a PlayStation 3 with everything offered by Xbox 360:
$849.95
This number declines sharply if next-gen disc formats (subtract $199.99) aren't a priority to you as a consumer, or if consumers have no interest in wireless connectivity (subtract the cost a WiFi solution -- $79.99-$99.99 of the solutions we listed).
$857.80

Obviously, this number declines sharply (to $754.95) with the purchase of a Logitech headset and an HDMI cable from Monoprice.

For the "Elite" to even touch PS3, it must add to that 479$ price the following:

1. Free Internet / Online gaming (add $50 annual fee)

2. Built-in Wifi (add $100 for MS official Wifi addon)

3. Built-in HD Player (add $199 for HD-DVD player addon)

4. Built-in memory cards reader (add $20)

479 + 50 + 100 + 199 + 20 = 848

$848 vs $599. I suppose you could subtract the HDMI cable MS provides (tho its only 1.2) - minus lets say $30 = $818

Hmmmm.... 360 "Elite" $818, and PS3 60GB $599 .... Hmmm.. 219 dollars difference hmmmm which one better value.... hmmm

Why is this even a subject... *sigh

Let's also not forget that everything in the PS3 comes standard... like blu-ray player and hard-drive, so the games can take advantage of them while the X-box 360 has add-ons and the games have to cater to the weakest working sysstem.

The article just takes the options of the system into account, not what they do. As "nobody" said, don't forget processing power. Even after the article makes them even w/ respect to the features of both, the power of the PS3 puts it ahead. So the PS3 has about 10x the processing power of the 360 elite and its games can go on BD discs, and it's just $8 more in the end for it? That's a no-brainer.

I don't know about "10 times more power" but I can't be the only one that's noticed that the one thing MS rarely touches on is the power of the two systems. MS claim they can do anything the PS3 can do, but they stop short of saying the 360 is more powerful.

Seems to me, from all the various sites that know what they are talking about that it is now a given that the PS3 IS the more powerful of the two. It's just down to developers to tap that power.

Microsoft will continue to play catch up with PS3 as best they can; frankly they've been doing it since before the PS3 was launched! They use a pattern that is now painfully transparent: they criticise the PS3 for one of its features, then a couple of months later release a patch or add on that enables the 360 to do the same thing!!

On aesthetics, the 360 looks like plastic, the PS3 doesn't just look great; it has presence.

The more I think about it, I think that is what they said when they first debuted the PS3, with the two HDMI ports. I think they claimed it to be 10 times more powerful than a typical PC, and probably different for the 360, but I remember them showing a graph that had the processing rate of the PS3 compared to the 360, and it was multiples more.

Default xbox for now is better

Well too let you guys know.... For now anyways... Xbox 360 outdoes the ps3 in almost every way.... The controller for xbox has less problems and i find better especially in the games i play. Xbox is far superior in perfomance and speed then the ps3 for now... the ps3 hardware is better but no games for the next 2 years is gonna even get close too use that power so xbox will kick ass in that department.... Play Call of duty 3 or Oblivion for both systems and you will see xbox 360 kicks ass compared too ps3... also the menus and online capabilities and what you can get for free online is way better on 360... Only downfall of the xbox 360 is it doesnt come with hd-dvd but for 200$ (compared too 500 for toshiba's hd-dvd player) you still cant beat that.... but its not better then blu-ray... (for now) since i did read that hd-dvd is comming out with a bigger storage disc then blu-ray soon.... and Since the porn industry and more sci-fi movies and tv shows are going hd-dvd.... i think hd-dvd is gonna get great again. But in overall including games you can get for the systems in the next 48 months... Xbox 360 is better. As for cords.... the crap the guy said you have too buy compared too ps3.... that's more bs.... Yes you need too pay for online play... but WOW 50 bucks.... common... the online play for xbox360 is the best... even better then Online PC play... better options and better voice too voice and better streaming so less lag... and i dont use wifi.... never have and i think thats a waste of money... Yes hd-dvd player is worth it... so 399.99 for 20gig(with 3 games which the ps3 online comes with 1 if lucky) 360 +179.99 for hd-dvd player and built in memory card? i have the HD so no use for that.... so its still 50% less in price then PS3 60gig. So.... xbox360 is best (again FOR NOW...) wait about 2 years... thats what ps2 took before it got too its max potential.

I guess you haven't seen the new Ratchet and Clank demo have you? The graphics are Pixar level quality and the game comes out this fall.

False. The triple layer 51GB HD-DVD isn't coming out anytime soon. The TL disk hasn't even been voted on by the DVD forum. Even if it was coming out none of the current HD-DVD players on the market will have the ability to play it.

Porn, sci-fi movies, and tv shows are not HD-DVD exclusive. Live isn't lag free. The PS3 will reach its potential sooner.

Exactly! I mean HD DVD hasn't even come out with the TL 45GB discs, yet. That's been in their specs for quite some time now. It's just smoke screen after smoke screen with HD DVD.

The PS3 is suppose to have AT LEAST 3 games coming out THIS year that will be as good or better than anything Xbox 360 has out to date (Lair being one of them next month).

Sony provides basically lag free servers while MS provides really laggy servers.

just because a game that came out on both systems is better on one doesn't mean the system is better...

MGS4 will blow away anything 360 has to offer.....and yes, that's next year...but we won't have to wait 2 years for games...I am more than happy with the games we have coming out along with my BD player...

and how many games did the 360 have this time last year?...
..
..
exactly..

PS3 Home will crush live...later this year...but right now I give the 360 the edge...

as was said about HD-DVD using a higher capacity disk....it's false..

you may not use wi-fi...but some people need the wireless connection...PS3 comes with it and 360 charges another 100...

the 360 and PS3 both haven't even tapped into their near-potential...

but the PS3 has everything the 360 can offer...and more with greater potential on top of that....

the xbox had better hardware than the PS2...but the PS2 had better games once they got rolling...

this time around PS3 has the better technology...game support...still by a hair....and on top of all that...a built-in BD player...

think of that this way watching a hd dvd video on the 360 1080p pushes all 3 cores to around 98% and that just for prosesing an image decoding it and outputting it llets see if it can play a game at 1080p?

Obviously you didn't play Oblivion on PS3 because if you did, you wouldn't be saying that.

I'd still say the PS3 60 GB offers better overall value.

Simply put.

Elite's HDMI is based only 1.2, so Elite dose not have capability pass DolbyTrueHD or DD+ signals.

Furthermore, Elite's HDMI's audio capability is restricted only standard DD, standard DTS, and linear PCM is only 2ch.
