Default No mention of HD DVD on Transformers ad

Just saw an ad for Transformers on dvd during NFL Live. No mention verbally of the hd-dvd version, plus the logo was not displayed. Watched twice just to be sure.
Guess they don't consider the hd-dvd market even warrants mention.

Saw an ad last night that had mention and a nice picture of the HD DVD box. Right before I went to bed so I could try to go to sleep pissed off.

Ok guys... How about a starting a rumor that Transformers HD DVD will be delayed 2-3 weeks. I think that not advertising it on HD DVd raises considerable doubt. JK

Sometimes I think it depends on what channel it is on. A lot of times when commercials are on Cartoon Network it will say on DVD and PSP. On Sci Fi it will say on DVD and Blu-Ray or HD DVD, whatever. I don't know if those two extra seconds cost more or what, but on a lot of other channels they just mention DVD and nothing else. I wonder how they go about deciding what will show when and where.

I'm not sure, but in videogames, if you see an advertisement that has the Sony or Microsoft little "bumper" at the end of it, that means that company paid some portion of the cost of the ad.

Probably part of the way that Toshiba or Sony or whomever sweetens the deal for the movie companies is this type of "co-op" advertising.

So perhaps the ads that mention HD-DVD were partially paid by another party (HD-DVD Promotions Group), and those that don't mention it were not.

But just a theory. Have seen the exact same thing with Fantastic 4 ads - some had blu-ray, some did not.

I believe commercials are done in 10, 15 and 30 second blocks. Ever see those short commercials which run in 2 or 3 in succession, that would be why.

It's all about marketing to a subset of people and sounding exclusive to that "in crowd" and the technologies they want to use. You sound too far reaching by trying to include everyone and make the message "complex". They know what they are doing. Targeting and getting the message across in the alloted time.

Default Transformers Commercial (10/10)

Hi all,

I was sitting around watching Fox tonight (roughly 9:30 EST in NYC) and the new Transformers commercial came on. The interesting part of this commercial is that the end line was "Available on DVD October 16th."

While all of you know it's comming out on the 16th, the fact that this is the first commercial for Transformers that has not advertised HD DVD at the end in addition to DVD. No case displayed, no writing, no spoken words.

I thought that this was interesting when put into conjunction with the other posts that claim problems with Transformers being delivered in HD DVD on the 16th.

Take it for what you will.

I have only seen commercials that say available on DVD and HD DVD. Too many times!

Maybe on Fox since they are Blu supporters? Maybe only they just have only the DVD commercial?

I doubt it. I've seen the regular commercials advertising both on Fox in the past.

I just posted in the other thread. Saw this same commercial during Kitchen Nightmares. The same ad was run during House last night on Fox with the HD-DVD mention. It is now gone. Something is up, but for some reason, I don't think the move was technical. Strategic, perhaps?

The HD-DVD logo was burned into the commercial. Either there was another master sitting around sans logo, or some quick post work was done to mask the HD-DVD logo and voice over mention was also erased.

Would a minor delay really cause the latter?

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out on the 16th. It may mean nothing, or it may mean problems in the HD DVD camp. Who knows? Will be fun to see what happens if it doesn't go to market.

Advertised or not, I am certain Transformers will see the light of day as HD-DVD. Fox may not like their advertising, but hey, it's their money to give up.

We are all salivating over getting this thing on Blu-ray, at least a great deal of us. That isn't going to make it happen any faster. Even IF by some miracle we see it on blu, it is likely to be the HD DVD rip.

Ok, now I know you guys are lying. I watched fox for two hours last night (Back to You, Til Death, & Kitchen Nightmares) and every single Transformers commercial advertised DVD and HD DVD, both with logo's and the voiceover.

Nope. It was gone. At least in NY.
