Default Surf's Up

Just got the Surf's Up blu-ray and I'm impressed. The menu system is excellent on it and it is the first blu-ray disc that I have purchased that comes up with an actual thumbnail on the PS3 instead of just the BD disc symbol.

Audio is awesome, fun movie, video is beautiful.

Good to know that the features on blu-ray discs are moving right along.

An added bonus was the CG short The Chubb Chubbs, which I saw years ago and is still great.

mmm...Planet Earth, great set.

I just bought Galapagos as well, I haven't had time to watch it all the way through yet.

28 Days/Weeks Later may be a later purchase for me...I focused on the oldies, and got Day/Dawn of the Dead

I don't ordinarily like animated films, but I really enjoyed this one.

Very impressive and distinctive PQ. This is the most "filmlike" animated movie I have seen.

Shia LaBeouf does an absolutely brilliant job as the voice of the main character. No wonder he is Spielberg's golden boy.

Bram Stokers Dracula also makes the custom icon thingie in the PS3.

I wish that could go back and add that to all the Blu's I already have.

I also really enjoyed this movie. This movie I was quite iffy about. I went into it expecting pretty little, but knew I would love the Picture and Audio. First off, the Audio on my system was quite amazing. The story was pretty good as well, but they way they put it together in the sort of "documentary" style was even cooler. As many have said, the Chubbubbs(or however you spell it) was a nice addition, and I do believe they were both in HD. I also checked out the trailers and.....Open Season 2?????? Nice. I like sequals to Animated movies to see how they improve graphically over the two years between movies.

Thumbs up

There are scenes in the movie that are so realistic, they look like real penguins on the beach and real penguins actually surfing. Simply amazing. The 3D depth of field in the Jungle and on the North Shore was also fabulous.

Default worth getting?

Hey guys,

I'm interested in getting this movie because of the reviews on this site and others. From what I've seen posted and read, it appears that this movie has superb picture quality which is my main interest. I also want the movie to be fun and watchable. I like many "silly" movies that don't try to be realistic or serious like most pixar movies, etc. I don't like movies that I consider corny like the Silver Surfer or Eragon that have all this violence going on but it is dumbed down for kids that it makes the movie retarded. Those movies try to act all serious but the plot is so bad it just makes you sick.

Anyways, back on point, what I'm looking for is 1. movie with great PQ 2. movie that is fun, light-hearted and and does not try to be too serious. Do you think this movie would be a good buy for me?

Thanks in advance

Cool

Just rented the dvd. Not all that impressed with the movie itself, and my 2 year old(who loves TMNT, Cars) had no interest either. I imagine the bluray is stellar, but I'll wait for Cars and Ratatouille. Pixar is still the best!

If you're planning on getting Surf's Up, try to get the $3 off coupon from the Parade magazine in this past Sunday's newspaper. I used it yesterday at Best Buy for the BD version of Surf's Up. YMMV.

I just bought it at Wal-Mart, which had it for the lowest price I've seen yet (Frys, BB, Target, Amazon).

Haven't watched the film yet but poked around the disc and have a few things...

Terrible banding at the beginning of chubb chubbs.

What is the icon (upper left) on the main menu? It looks like a speaker mute icon but I couldn't tell any difference when switching it back and forth. Seems like there was something like this on The Descent also.

I found a couple of easter eggs on the main menu. From that mysterious icon cursor up, and to the right, ufos appear, hit enter (short bits where they show you some stuff they hid in the background.
