United Kingdom 10 years of Optimum HMV exclusives.

I've been searching everywhere for a list of all the blu rays which are part of the HMV exclusive 10 years of Optimum promotion. I have 4 of the titles with the silver sleeves and was after a list so I could finish it all off.

I have: This is England, Pans Labyrinth, Switchblade Romance and Persepolis and I know there is Wolf Creek, Elephant, 9 Songs and The Orphanage in this collection.

Does anyone have a definitive list? They are all numbered.

Thanks.

What are these releases, and what is the 'exclusive sleeve'? Do they all have that grey stripe along the top, because I don't actually like that... or do they have a slipcover (which isn't shown in the picture?)

They have the grey slip along the top and each spine is numbered. There is no Slipcover.

Different artwork, different release dates but still the same basic (some 1080i) discs and rock bottom prices within days of release. I don't know why they bother but I suppose they want to keep their jobs and they'll do anything that looks new and might keep the shareholders happy.

HMV and Optimum have connections in other areas too but I think this 'exclusive' 10 Year thing (who's really heard of Optimum except their own staff?) is a damp squib.

Had it not been for the purchase of Optimum by Vivendi (posted the largest ever financial loss until RBS bank came along), Optimum's discs would have ended up in Poundland long ago.

Not really, thanks to Optimum, many titles that didnt have a chance of being released have. Also, Optimum are a very respectable and reliable company that provide great discs but like every company, they have made their mistakes. If you know anything about film, then you know Optimum.

I know Optimum and they have a great release of films, The Pianist anyone?? I'm a big fan of alot of films that come out from them and the quality has been fairly consistant with all of the films I've bought by them! Only disapointment was This is England last night and that wasn't worse transfer I've ever seen.

They would look nicer if they didn't have that silver bar.

I assume you didn't buy 'The Three Burials Of Melquades Estrada'? That was released as 1080/50i and therefore runs at the wrong speed.

I don't think so. Optimum release it in the UK only as they're part of StudioCanal.

Optimum used to be a very small company until they were bought by Vivendi-Universal (who also own StudioCanal (who have a truly enormous catalogue of films including Terminator 2 -they actually own that film)).

I think they've done very well for the UK film fan but let's not view them with rose-tinted glasses as some if not all of their back catalogue Blurays have been utter crap for extras. In the main this is for finance reasons and laziness. The best stuff is just re-labelled French releases.

They release what they can get away with and even then it's all very secretive until the disc drops on our doorstep. Not much different to most other distributors.

Nice brand name and I hope Vivendi hold on to it.

Brick is 1080i with no extras. May as well have not bothered releasing it...

The Orphanage sleeve:

That was marked up at £10 in HMV but it went through at £7. They also had Elephant (10th) and other stuff but I didn't have time to browse.

I think HMV's bankers have forced them to rake through skips to sell of old stock because on the way out they had a load of those old James Bond attaché cases too.

If anyone in the USA/Canada would like that Blu-ray PM as I'm after a Superman Returns DVD (the one with the Science of Superman).

Yeah, I don't get why they put things like these on special editions or exclusives, it's ugly and frankly looks out of place. If the silver strip wasn't there, I would have bought them just for there alternative cover arts.

How is the The Orphanage transfer? Is it the same as the one with red blacks?

Also, This Is England, hope it looks good, it's a must own.
