The 'play and it see if it works' answer is all well and good, but I really don't care for scratches. Why? On a Blu-ray, the technology has a much lower resistence to even the most minor scratches. Besides, Blu-ray discs are coated so they shouldn't be scratched unless the disc came loose in a case or you didn't take care of it. Why pay for a product that's advertised as being scratch resistent, only to get one with a scratch on it? Get what you paid for.

correct. if it plays you're good. scratches happen on ANY media. especially faint tiny scratches, it can be from the disc lightly scraping across the disc try when it's loaded or any number of things. as long as they're no deep circular scratches you really shouldn't have a problem.

Of course I know that Blu-ray discs are not indestructible. All I'm merely saying is, if the disc is scratched, why settle for that? The discs are made that way for a reason, too - The data layer is much closer to the outside of the disc than the data layer on a DVD is, since Blu-ray has so much more information on it. This is why even minor scrapes can affect playback. As already said, you're probably fine and if the disc works, then you're in the clear. If this is a disc in your own collection and you either scraped it, or it's been scraped all along and had no idea, then no worries. If you just bought it and it came like that though, return it. |
