ISLAND OF LOST SOULS (Masters of Cinema) DUAL FORMAT (STEELBOOK EDITION ALSO AVAILABLE)
For the first time in the UK, one of the most imaginative and nightmarish fantasies from Hollywood’s golden age of horror – starring the legendary Charles Laughton. Originally rejected by the BBFC, this first and best screen adaptation of H. G. Wells’ THE ISLAND OF DR MOREAU, is one of Hollywood’s wildest pre-Code pictures.

Special Features:
  • New high-definition restoration of the uncut theatrical version, officially licensed from Universal Pictures
  • Newly created SDH subtitles on the feature for the deaf and hard of hearing
  • Uncompressed original monaural soundtrack on the Blu-ray
  • An exclusive video piece in which horror critic and historian Jonathan Rigby discusses the film and its source novel
  • Original theatrical trailer
  • More extras to be announced nearer the release date
  • A lavish booklet featuring rare production imagery, and more!

How is this different from the Criterion edition?

It's region B compatible, some of the extras will be different (booklet etc.) and you get a steelbook option

RE: Island of Lost Souls

I received an answer back directly from Eureka...heres what I was told , "we haven't done a side by side comparison, but we believe its the same - i.e. the best that's probably ever going to be"

But now the dilemma I have is that I want the steelbook version but all ready have the Criterion. Do I double dip just for the packaging? Or do I sell off my Criterion and buy the MoC steelbook

I don't think they reach the levels of Touch of evil, Silent running and Two lane blacktop

I think that's stunning. I generally don't like fancy packaging but I'm definitely going to get this over the amaray.

This is an absolutely dreadful cover. It puts in mind the Brando remake disaster. Talking of Eureka steel covers The Lost Weekend isn't so hot either though nowhere as bad as this. It reminds me in style of a 30's universal horror poster.

Now the Lifeboat cover; Well that's a work of art.

Well it is a 30s Universal horror...

But I disagree with you. I deplore collectible packaging but I'm getting this for the artwork alone. Each to their own I suppose.

I agree. Each to their own. Though I was referring to "The Lost Weekend". Apologies if it wasn't clear. I should've new para'd it.

If you 'deplore' collectible packaging why you trolling the steelbook thread?

It amazes me how some people on this forum come into a thread on a specific topic just to add their 2 cents in and leave nothing constructive what so ever except to disrupt it

To voice my enthusiasm for the steelbook artwork through the hyperbolic use of 'deplore'?
