As a fan of arcade racers and an evangelist for all things fast, my face melted off with a recent build of Wipeout (working title) specifically build from the ground up for Vita.

Game director Stu Tilley promises the biggest Wipeout experience to date; with 10 new tracks, 20 new ships, new game modes and weapons. My favorite feature and new to PlayStation, is cross-platform-gaming. Load up your copy of Wipeout HD Fury on your PS3 and you’ll be able to race up against seven Vita opponents in online multiplayer sessions. You can mix and match the number of PS3 and Vita racers however you like, bringing the world of Wipeout seamlessly together with the power of PSN.

Learn more details in the video above, which also showcases how Tilley and his team took advantage of Vita’s touch technology, dual cameras and built-in Six-axis motion controls. Sure, the PS Vita may be the new kid in town, but it’s doing fantastic things with one of PlayStation’s legendary racers.

So I'm guessing it's 10 new tracks, 20 news ships... PLUS all the tracks and ships from WipEout HD or just the Fury expansion.

I like how at the ground level the environment's contemporary and as you go higher it's more futuristic.

My mind actually blew when they said that...but I wonder if you can transfer you WipEout HD game file to the NGP version.

This is defiantly going on my NGP list.

That cross platform play video is fantastic. The IQ is pretty much the same between the 2 versions.

Gamescom trailer:

I'm afraid these are really heavily compressed:

[Show spoiler]

This course.

Everyone pulls a face!

Weapons pads are now split into two types, yellow (offensive) and green (defensive) so you've got a bit more control over grabbing something useful.

If you pick up the shield and leave it unused it deploys automatically as soon as you're hit by another weapon.

The online campaign is events and objectives driven. Your primary objective's still to win the race but you may be given tasks like destroying a specific racer for which you get more XP to unlock ships and stuff.

With NEAR you can set a fast lap, save the ghost replay as a NEAR challenge and then if anyone comes near you (or where you've been) they pick up the challenge and you're automatically messaged back with their progress and ghost.

You can also directly challenge your friendslist times, working your way up the leaderboards, automatically downloading ghosts.

All the NEAR and ghost stuff works over 3G of course.

This is (game director) Stuart Tilley's first WipEout but he worked on the two Rollcage games.

We are doing a couple of things with Near. One of the cool things we do with our unlock system you can view your ships with augmented reality so there is a museum of collectables that you can see in AR. You will be able to gift them through Near so you will be able to unlock stuff for other players. You will be also able to set race challenges like I finished this track in this time and you can drop that as a Near challenge which people can pick up as they go past. You can see how many people pick it up and how many beat your time.

It doesn’t necessarily have the polygon throughput of the PS3 but then you have a lot of stuff you can do with the shaders and even the anti-aliasing on the shadows is a lot better and more efficient to do on PS Vita as well. It’s a case of rebalancing it and building stuff in a sensible way to take advantage of the PS Vita.

Yep, photo mode is there and it has all the post-processing effects that the PS3 version has.

Whoever keeps capturing these WipEout shots, treating them to horrible JPEG compression and then distributing them as TGA files needs a good slap.

Wipeout 2048 - Zone Mode Gameplay - YouTube
The "Insert Coin" sign at the start was a nice touch for the gameplay style.

As for zone...only ever reached zone 71, so...I'm not sure if I'll be able to platty this.

The official Japanese site has some good ship renders:

http://www.jp.playstation.com/scej/t...2048/team.html

The prototype ship might be a Zone Mode ship. I wonder if Zone Mode is still in the year 2048 or they change year for all the WipEout HD+Fury content and Zone Mode.

WipEout 2048 hopes to be more welcoming to those new to the series with wider tracks that allow racers to concentrate on the racing, according to producer Michael Pulst, who reasons that the series' notoriously difficult tracks "turned people off'".
Why am I getting a Gran Turismo vibe in the video?
