Default Transformers uses AVC

I just found this out. sorry, if its been posted. im on the ps3 so i can't copy and paste the link, but a review at hi-def preview has come out on the hd dvd release. they said its very good PQ and used an AVC encode. This most likely means the money came from Toshiba and not MS as MS would have demanded its VC-1 encoding. It also hints that Para***** is thinking ahead to a blu-ray release imo, hang in there guys only 16 months.

Also, they probably had Transformers encoded before August 28th.

Since they were using AVC on Blu-Ray, it makes more sense to do a Blu encode and then squish more for HD than to use 2 diff systems. That way you can use previous pass data as well.

This is not a "blu-ray encode". Plenty of Japanese titles use AVC for HD DVD

If that's true, then it means that while Para***** was format neutral, they were going to use AVC for both formats while Warner is using VC-1 for both.

Thanks again, Warner.

Yeah, I heard that from a person who checks Japanese Paramount titles said she received BD version check discs before the announcement .

In my opinion, Paramount seems not care about codec, maybe choice of codec is the preference of their posthouse. Something like it is AVC when Technicolor (Thomson, "Tiger" AVC encoder) is authoring, VC-1 when GDMX, Deluxe is doing. Just conjecture...

Let's not forget too that SONY helped them too much in authoring titles in AVC,For this reason they have what they have now.BUT Para***** choose to let SONY DOWN in favor of MONEY.At least they should appreciate the hard work done by sony engineers how learned them to encode titles correctly.

Btw you can't use BluRay encoded stream for HD DVD.

Peak video bitrate for HD DVD have to be under 27mbits

While Bluray it have to be under 41mbits

The latest Paramount Encode in AVC done for BluRay where peaking at 35mbits...

This might be why there is no lossless audio. They first did the Blu-ray encode, then redid the high-peak scenes to fit under DUD's inferior limit. This way they could fit the video under the limit, but had to also replace the lossless audio with lossy audio?

enjoy

This is a strange decision indeed.. the movie is 2.35:1 so it takes less to encode that a full 1.85:1 movie. But it Move A LOT,TF have a lot of rapid quick camera movement and change and that heat bandwitdh. Troy DC have a TrueHD track and is longer. A TrueHD track in 16bit takes about 2.1 mbits bandwithd with peaks at about 3 and low at 1.1.. a 24bit about 4.2mbits (peak at 5-5.1 top) but you have to count the other tracks as well etc etc.. so it's a tight fit..

As I understood it, the way HD-DVD packs data is different than the way BD packs it. So the video conversion can go HD-DVD->BD but not the other way around. This is also the reason why there is DD Plus for HD-DVD but it is not needed for BD (unless there are extra discrete channels).

with hddvd you cant have it all, somthings got to give, and for this release it was lossless audio. way to support movie enthusiasts.

Why do people bother with this format again??
