Inconsistencies in notifications

Most threads I've subscribed to (for instance, https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...83#post5946383) I get notifications only every five or six messages, and if I don't respond to that notification and open the thread, I'll get no more notifications at all on that particular thread until I go to that page again by browsing the forums and open it manually. Then my notifications will recommence, but follow the same pattern I've described.

So if I get notified of a post that doesn't actually interest me, I have to open the thread anyway or I lose my subscription to that thread.

Yet other threads (such as https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...83#post5946383) I stay subscribed to and get notification apparently on every single message that's posted, even though I haven't been to that thread for months. (Well, I've spoiled that now, since I opened the thread to get the URL for this post! )

Seems like a strange inconsistency. Is there something a bit wonky with the widget that manages subscriptions and notifications on this site, maybe?
