It sounds like you have a blown tweeter man. Were you playing your movies fairly loud and heard a pop at all? The whistling tells me its more than likely that something inside the tweeter went out, the voice coil maybe, although I can't really be sure. Is it also quieter?

No,it's not quieter and I have never heard a pop. How much does it usually cost to replace a tweeter?

Ugh, I'm not really sure. The best you can probably do is to contact Polk Audio, Here
HTML Code:
http://www.polkaudio.com/contactus/index.php
, and ask them if they have replacement tweeters you can purchase. I'm fairly certain they provide them for a cost. The actual replacement procedure is really simply. If its still under warranty and you got it from a local shop then I'd just take it in and ask them to replace the tweeter, if its under warranty odds are it'll be less than 20$.

If Polk doesn't have replacements the next best option would be a replacement from Parts-Express.com or Madisound.com, which would be somewhere around 100$ or so.

Doesn't sound like a blown tweeter - just one of the lesser aspects about their center speakers. Almost every Polk speaker I've owned has been sibilant to some degree. Some were very noticeable while others just slightly. And it's not just an issue with Polk speakers. Unless you're spending $350 and up for a center speaker, expect to hear this often. Once you hear it, you can't unhear it.
