I already own the Blu-Ray release from Germany, and was not impressed with the transfer. I keep wondering if it was an upscale, as the image quality seemed lacking.

A few quick screenshots as examples:

The German one is released by Koch Media. I hope Steven Spielberg is involved by the Universal Pictures release.

Universal is supplying Koch with transfers, so I suspect that the US and German editions will look the same.

The US edition already has better audio details. If those are final.

DTS-HD Master 5.1 vs DTS-HD Master 2.0

What a terrible movie -- for anyone who WASN'T a kid when it opened. Also one of the biggest duds to carry Spielberg's name as a producer.

I wouldn't call it terrible, though I recently saw this for the first time about six months ago and haven't thought about it since. I do vaguely remember the marketing of this from my childhood but for whatever reason never saw the movie back then. I'm sure my views on it would be much more favorable had I seen it for the first time as a kid.

I haven't seen this since VHS days, but I remember it very well. The "Roll Back the Rock" song has stuck with me and routinely gets stuck in my head to this day. I may have to revisit this film just to see what it's like with adult eyes. I remember the climax being unnecessarily scary. Also my personal Walter Chronkite impression is him saying "Welcome to the Museum of Natural History."

Yes! I can finally upgrade my VHS tape. I used to love this one, very surprised by this announcement.
