Default New Home Theater

Hey Guys,

New to the Forum and I figure I might as well share my home theater build. I moved into our home just over a year ago and figured it was time to have my own area where I could enjoy. During my finishing of the basement This area will add about 800 SQ FT of living space and about 300 of storage.

My Equipment: Epson 8350, Elite 100" Screen, Yamaha 573, 6-8" built in Micca Speakers (surprised on how well they sound), 12" Infinity Sub, Harmony 550, PS3, WDTV Live, Lutron Spacer System, 12TB Home Theater Server, 1 VPN Computer

Let me know what you think. Here are my pictures, enjoy.

This is where I am at currently, about 30 days in, and taking a short break for a few days before I get back to it

Welcome to the forum!!!! Looks great!!! Are you concerned about soundproofing? I ask because you did not mention it. Taking a 30 day break after you hung the projector and testing the speakers....Hahahahah that's where all wk seems to come to a halt lol. I'm sure you deserve the break!!!

I did put some insulation in the ceiling to help deaden the noise. Yeah, I needed it, maybe this week I can start putting the drywall and cement board up for the bathroom. I haven't taken 30 days off, I completed that much in the time frame. All I need is a few days to a week off.

That is really impressive progress, I look forward to following along. We move into our new place in a couple of days and I continue to plan our new build in my head. I know I really need to do that formally... if you documented your plans prior to building how close have you stayed to the plans? I'm worried about investing all sorts of time drawing out the plans then just doing something totally different in the end.

I misread your post. That is a tremendous amount of work in such a lil time. I wish my project would fall in line so quickly. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

I stayed on plan about 90% of it. I did have to make the bathroom larger (than intended) because I wasn't sure what I was doing for a base, I added a few more outlets and canned lights (can never have enough). I spent one snowy winter Sunday and drew out my plans, probably spent 4 hours drawing out the size, materials, where electrical will go, and all the soffits for the ceiling.

Yeah, I'm trying to get whatever I can done before the weather gets really nice out (and I'll have little motivation to keep working on it in the summer)

So far, it looks good. Are you doing all the work by yourself, and if you are, you are going to be exhausted when you get it finished. Have you ever considered asking somebody to help you, like a family member, or a friend? You'll get the job completed much faster. That's a lot of work for one person! A project that big, you can use 2 or 3 people.

I had some help from my father, helped me frame 2 of the days, ran the gas line to the outside grill and help with the water that runs into the bathroom (I had no idea how easy it was to actually install). All that I really have left is installing the drywall, I'm going to most likely pay to have someone tape and mud (its an art that takes alot of patients) and paint.

Okay, after taking some time off and running into a few issues (with some other things), I'm back to working on this project. I used up all of my current drywall and finished dry walling the bathroom. I hope to start mudding the bathroom and start tiling it next week (then I'm done with the bathroom).

I also placed a plastic tarp/sheeting inbetween the utility area and the basement so the dust doesn't get sucked up in the HVAC and spread throughout the rest of the house.

This week I'm getting the remaining 70 sheets of drywall delivered (should be fun bringing into my tight corner walkway to the basement). I also have to replace my brand new HDMI Cord that I already installed (hidden in the drywall) because it just happened to stop working . I have to run it in the conduit that I installed (for future expansion), I installed 1" (thats what mendards had), should fit (hopefully).

Once I get those sheets up I will have someone tape and mud it.

I'll post some pictures as I get more done.

Okay, so I had my delivery and unloaded the majority of it into 2 piles in my basement. I also finished my Duct and auto thermostat (for the electronics in the built in component rack). I also had a friend help put up some sheet rock the other night and this is where I am at currently.

Wow.

Looking great. I like the roof. It will break up some sound reflections.

Thanks, I originally planned for October to be done, but my guess is I'll be done sooner. After I hang the drywall, I have to get someone to come out and mud, I'll cut the tile for the bathroom, my wife will paint and I will have carpet laid. I think I will have it all painted and by mid to end July. I will probably wait a little bit after to put the carpet in.

At this point all that is left is carpet and trim. I'm having home depot come out this week and in 2 weeks they will be installing (the plan).

The bathroom

The component rack. I tried to follow someone else tutorial from their forum and It turned out ok, but not perfect.

Talking Done

I'm pretty much done with the exception of floor trim, installing column post covers, and 1 door. Just had home depot install the carpet, very satisfied with the turn out.
