United Kingdom 18 films on the 'Ultimate Horror Classics' release??? An SD Blu-Ray?

Huh..? On Amazon.co.uk
I can't find any information on this, yet it's on Amazon at the moment.
But it says SD, not HD. Anyone have any information on this release at all.

I'm confused by it all. An SD Blu-Ray? 18 films?

Amazon saying a SD Blu-ray? It sounds just like them stating an American Blu-ray is encoded in NTSC.

It's just 18 SD films, but on a blu-ray.

Sounds good. If the films are public domain, and there is no real cash incentive to remaster them, I think it's a GREAT idea. I'd love to start seeing SD TV series being brought out like this.. good way of cutting down disc counts.

Not so good at all. Atleast The Last Man on Earth is released as a BD in HD in Germany. Also the Terror is released both in the USA and in Germany in true HD!

Sounds like an interesting idea. Of course, it's unfortunate that they're not presented in high definition, but as LordCrumb said, these films are in the public domain and I can't imagine these selling well enough to justify a restoration. A lot of the titles there are new to me, but I've seen White Zombie, The Vampire Bat and The Terror, and I own The Ghoul but have yet to see it.

I've been waiting for something like this to come along for awhile, tbh I expected to see it a lot sooner. In principal it's a great idea for TV shows and films that no one has any interest in releasing in HD but much like those bargain basement DVDs I fear what we will get is terrible quality public domain releases that are of such poor quality that you simply can't watch them. If the format was to be applied to TV shows, and say a full 6 season run was put on 3 Blu's in SD it would be fantastic, after all there are a lot of shows that are never going to get the love and attention they deserve in order to upgrade them for Blu.

Not really a big deal as far as I'm concerned, just an evolution of the 20-in-1 type of DVD sets, except they can cram them into one blu-ray disc instead of a few DVDs. If it was cheaper than £15 I'd probably buy it.

You never know, there might be one gem in there you've never heard of and could pickup a separate higher quality blu-ray release for later.

Wouldn't you rather have Argento and Fulci in HD ?? (for Romero things are admittedly more difficult due to public domain status). Also, one comment on Amazon says these are "heavily cut" versions...

I like this idea as well, as long as the material itself is SD sourced to begin with. However, I don't want to see a TV series shot on film being put out in this fashion.

The problem with "The Last Man on Earth" is that the visual quality is about the same as a good SD DVD....it really is not HD.
