Yes. The Anchor Bay release of part 1, Lionsgate release of part 2 and Universal release of Army of Darkness are all worth the upgrade.

Many people complain about the heavy DNR Universal slapped on Army of Darkness. I think it looks amazing. I still hope one day a version will be released with the deleted scenes and the alternate ending receiving a 1080p upgrade.

Agreed. I still have the director's cut on DVD, so those two discs together are pretty much the definitive Army of Darkness package.

I only own the first one on Blu-ray (I'm holding out in the hope that the sequels receive better releases) but it looks fantastic. The grain has definitely been preserved and it looks very natural and film-like. I say upgrade!

I mean in the UK. I was hoping that StudioCanal would release the 25th Anniversary Edition over here, but it doesn't look likely.

You're not kidding. It's also lame that we don't have those excellent Hammer blu-rays over here.

Wait a tick, you've got boatloads of Hammer BDs either out or coming out soon that the US has no signs of thus far, so it's certainly not a total bust

We should just both cave and get region free players and import.

Evil Dead 1 Blu-ray also includes a properly (or at least better) framed widescreen version of the film that is different than any of the DVD releases.

Evil Dead 2 Blu is a must upgrade too, including new extras not on DVD.

Army of Darkness looks good but is not the Director's cut and I held out on it for a long time until I could buy it cheap ($5)

I find the director's cut to be inferior. It's far choppier in it's editing. Plus the theatrical ending kicks so much ass. The director's cut ending is such a bummer to end the series on.

That's what I like about it, personally. To me it showed that Ash's ongoing nightmare just never stops. He gets through one problem and then finds himself right smack into another. And it never ends. Ever.

I actually prefer the International Cut out of the three different cuts. It has better editing, the best scenes from the Director's Cut and it still has the ending that was originally intended to be shown theatrically.

Not to mention it still has the badass line from the Theatrical Cut where Ash says "Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun" when he blows Evil Ash's face off.

I agree. The Director's Cut is too long and lacks perhaps the most important moment in Bruce Campbell's career.
That scene made him the Icon that he is today, and forever.

Agreed. It's going to have to wait until next year. Way to many blu's coming out in the next few months.

As heretical as it may be to say here at Blu-ray.com, I still maintain that watching the MGM R3 Director's Cut DVD is a more enjoyable experience than the Universal BD.

The only reason I own the AoD BD is because it was included in a lot that had other stuff I could make an arbitrage-based profit off of...

Which Army of Darkness Blu-ray is worth getting, the US or UK? Region doesn't matter.

I refuse to buy Army of Darkness until the vastly superior Director's Cut with the proper ending is released in 1080p.
