Everybody is fighting their own demons my friend. Sometimes there is no logical reason to actions such as these. Now he will no longer hurt the innocent.

The real weirdness? His adopted son, who started out defending him, has announced that he, too, was molested.

That leaves the loyal wife standing there, after testifying on Sandusky's behalf, really tied to the railroad tracks. Not only did she testify that he did nothing wrong, she's now in the position of her own son saying the guy did these things, even to him.

She might have been able to play the sympathy card before now - the "oh, the wife is the victim too, don't ruin her as well"...but those hopes look pretty much like pipe dreams now.

The glorification of this football program, the attempt to draw Paterno as a saint, this Second Mile place that was just a hunting ground for Sandusky, that Righteous Riot For Papa Joe Paterno that those confused students did, and the innocent look of Sandusky's Loyal Spouse, is now lit up in a very new and harsh daylight.

The whole thing is rotten. They need to suspend this program for a couple of years until everybody comes to their senses and remember what universities actually are for.

It's a weird thing...they say that, and they're very earnest about it, but I don't think they really believe it.

They spent a lot of time in hero worship. They like the symbology, the "tailgate church" they attended on Game Day, the whole "we're FANS, part of this Mob, everybody nod!" feeling.

If they have to face the fact that Papa Joe didn't give a damn about kids being molested, and passed the buck and stayed out of it, all that crumbles. They actually believe that they had something "invested" in this hero-worship, and are loathe to walk away.

It doesn't just happen in football. There's a certain pop star, now dead, who did the same thing; people just don't want to go there, and have been successful at keeping it at arm's length. Then see what they done with Polanski...

These people aren't stupid. Deep down, they probably give a damn, too, they're not animals. But it's just hard to let go of old feelings, even in the face of the truth.

This was one of the more disgusting pedo cases I've heard of. This guy was literally hiding in plain sight. No telling exactly how many victims there really were. About a dozen came forward dating back a decade or so. But given Sandusky was in his 50's when the earliest allegations took place I'd be shocked if that was the start of this behavior. People don't just turn into pedophile monsters in their 50's.

The wife knew. It's willful ignorance IMO. She reminds me of Tony Soprano's wife in The Sopranos. She knew her husband was a monster, but either blocked the horrific things out of her mind or tried to rationalize them. I think it's best described as "don't ask, don't tell." She never confronted her husband about it and he never mentioned it. As for why she would allow it to go on it could be a variety of reasons. Maybe she liked the wealth and fame that came from being married to a very well known and (formerly) respected football coach. Or maybe, like her husband she actually thought (wrongly) that he did more good than harm by being part of that charity.

I am not sure how appeals work, but hopefully they get a good judge. They have a decent case. Well, decent may be over stating it, but they do have some reason.
