Default New Van Halen single "Tattoo..."

Sounds like a $hit sandwich! Seriously I hope there are better songs on the upcoming album because this one is terrible! (sorry, I cannot link it here at work but go to You Tube. It's out there). David Lee Roth sounds fine vocally and EVH's guitar sounds good. However the song is just so cheesy and the harmonies REALLY make me miss Michael Anthony. Still can't believe EVH appointed his dough boy son Wolfgang to play bass!

Listening to it now. Yeah, maybe not quite as intense or badass as their other hit songs. The melody is not terribly appealing to me. But I am loving the guitar, and the overall beat/tempo. Sounds a little more like a Queen song, or one of the sappier Def Leppard songs, rather than Van Halen.

EDIT:
Here's the youtube video.

I really like the Roth era of Van Halen. Having said that, this song doesn't do much for me. Hopefully this is one of those cases where they are slow playing the album by not releasing one of the best songs as a single.

Also, that video is absolute shite. I'd probably have a better opinion of the song if I wasn't listening to it while watching that.

Eddie looks to be in pretty good health though, which is a good thing.

I don't know. It does sound like some of the lesser songs on an old VH album. You know the ones you hear between the hits when you play the whole record, like that.

Having said that, this song alone is better than anything on VH III. That album was a complete f#cking let down.

Hmm, hopefully it'll grow on me but it does come off as cheesy instead of badass. Too bad. Fingers crossed that there are several better songs on the album.

What's this I heard on the radio this morning about their opening act being Kool and the Gang? Say it ain't so!!!

Oh come on guys 'cheesy' describes VH to a tee. They've always been that for better or worse. The song has a funny concept, but the piss poor lyrics/vocal arrangement ruin it. Not a good sign if this is their 1st single....but at least it's better than crap like "Ice Cream Man".

If this is the best Roth-VH we'll get.....I'm still enough of a fan to be in.

I'm buying the CD/DVD set on day one, absolutely. The DVD will have acoustic versions of 4 classic VH trax.

Pretty lame song. Horrible, horrible video. Roth looks like such a clown dancing around.

comeback gets even better

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...ttake-20120110

"When Rolling Stone spoke with Sammy Hagar in November, he told us that he heard the new Van Halen record was largely comprised of old music. "I mean stuff from before I even joined the band," Hagar said. "Ed and Dave didn't actually write new songs. They took old stuff from previous sessions, and then maybe Dave had to go in and add vocals because they just had scat vocals, or even no vocal part at all..."

They have done that forever, though. I have the original demos of a couple songs off the new album, and they were recorded in 1977-1978.

But VH have always plundered their old writings for riffs, hooks, choruses, etc. The early demos I have on disc have elements of songs from every Van Halen era/singer.

I picked up Chickenfoot for .49¢ from Best Buy. I think it was worth the almost nothing i paid but overall did not get into it much, but it does have a nice case. As for the new VH single i also don't care for it much, but i hold out hope the album as a whole will be good.
