Nice. I'll be picking this one up for sure. I've heard it's not as good as his last two films, but I still wanna check it out.
Also noticed that Magnolia is releasing this. They're turning out to be one of the better labels for non-mainstream modern horror. Last edited by Seymour; 05-21-2014 at 03:36 AM. |

I enjoy Ti West's films and have been wanting to see this. I will buy it used when it gets below $10 including shipping.

I will pick this up. I'm a big fan of Ti West and while I didn't like this as much as House Of The Devil and The Innkeepers, it was still excellent.
I'm sure this will be divisive just like The Innkeepers. I can't see it converting any haters. |

This movie was absolutely terrible.
I think House of the Devil is a great atmospheric horror piece, and while I'm not a fan of The Innkeepers, both are far better than this one. It's On Demand if you folks want to check it out before blind buying it. |

I love House of the Devil. It's one of my favorite recent horror films.
While this is not up to par, I think it's definitely a nice take on the found footage angle and overall was a good film. I liked The Innkeepers too, but it wasn't really anything special, and tbh was a very long piece of nicely crafted "nothing". |

I liked it. But I'd suggest doing the On Demand option, or renting if possible. It's not something I'd want to buy due to 'rewatchability'. I hate to say I was a bit disappointed. But I was cause I thought it was going to be a bit supernatural, in nature.. or something. But it was basically a straight up documentary drama. Again, I did like it. But, just for one viewing.
I can't really compare it to House of the Devil, The Innkeepers, The Roost or any of his others I've seen. I imagine that those that didn't like The Innkeepers, may not like this one either. But who knows. |

I really liked it so ill definitely be picking it up. Ti West has won me over with House, Innkeepers, and now this. Wasnt a fan of his with The Roost or Trigger Man which I hated. Now I look forward to his stuff. Id probably say Innkeepers is my favorite so far. The characters in that make it for me.

I'm not sure how Ti West does it, but his films you either like or you don't. Rarely is there ever an in the middle. I'm glad that he hasn't gone crowd pleasing mainstream. He sticks to his guns and that's what makes him a great filmmaker.
I'm very much looking forward to checking this out this weekend. |

Totally agree. I have never met a Ti West movie I did not like.
![]() I fully understand why some may find his movies less entertaining than me. I am just a sucker for atmosphere, which I find there is always an abundance of in his works. |

I need to see this ASAP. Of his films I've only seen House of the Devil and Innkeepers and I loved both of them, so sign me up. Anywhere I can watch this?
The man has a great ability to create horrific atmosphere. I might prefer House by a smidge but I think Innkeepers is scarier. That was so scary it hurt. |

It wasn't a terrible movie, and certainly had some chilling scenes, but I don't quite understand its purpose. It does nothing with the story of Jim Jones and the People's Temple; they changed the name of the commune and the leader, but it's nearly a blow-by-blow account of the true story, albeit on an indie budget & minus the more salacious details. Amy Seimetz gave a nice performance, though, of what I'm assuming was a composite of Annie & Carolyn Moore.
If West had given the film room to breathe, the violent turn it takes halfway through would have had more impact. Instead, it's incredibly abrupt and seems to occur as if he was mandated to keep the film at 90 minutes. We know bad things are underfoot, but don't rush through the story you're telling just to get to the gruesome bits. Not if you want them to have impact. |

The performances are decent but did they even need to change the names? I remember there was a fantastic TV movie from the 70's-80's with Powers Boothe that kept everything as straight from the facts as possible so why something made in collaboration with Vice and Eli Roth need to hide it under a ridiculous assumption that we won't believe it's related to Jamestown at all? Also, if it takes place in 200X-201X how come they only went there with 3 people and no other safety measures? How can the gov't ignore the existence of a camp like that considering how quickly the authorities in real life found out about Jim Jones 30+ years ago? I have no idea what's going on with Ti West but considering this film and his shorts in V/H/S and The ABC's Of Death's "M for Miscarriage" which makes 95% of the shorts we had to shoot under a week with absurd amounts of homework at film school during the first semester look like Samsara, Gravity and Solaris I have no idea what's happening to him. He's so talented but unfortunately his recent efforts have been underwhelming to say the least. |

I thought it was an ok movie. Not something I would buy and rewatch though. I thought the guy that played Father did a nice job and the whole Vice thing was a nice touch. My wife was not familiar with Jim Jones and this movie did spark her interest in finding out more about what happened there.
