Default Need for Speed: The Run

Quote:
As Jack’s epic, cross-country race speeds into downtown Chicago, the mob is closing in and the cops are hot on his trail. Experience breathtaking action both behind the wheel and on foot as Jack’s forced out of his car and onto the rooftops in a dizzying game of cat and mouse. Jack’s only option is to steal a police cruiser then evade the mob helicopter’s relentless pursuit and a hailstorm of bullets in his desperate attempt to leave Chicago in his rearview mirror and get back in the race.

Publisher: Electronic Arts
Developer: Black Box
Release Date: US - November 15, 2011 UK - November 18, 2011

Quote:
It's called The Run. An illicit, high-stakes race across the country. The only way to get your life back is to be the first from San Francisco to New York. No speed limits. No rules. No allies. All you have are your driving skills and sheer determination as you battle hundreds of the world's most notorious drivers on the country's most dangerous roads.
EA TAKES GAMERS ON THE RACE OF THEIR LIVES IN NEED FOR SPEED THE RUN

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – April 29, 2011 – Get ready to rip up the road! Adrenaline junkies and speed fiends will find themselves on the wrong side of the law this November when they race for their lives in Need for SpeedTM The Run from Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS). The hottest blockbuster this holiday is a game that takes players on a heart-pounding cross-country race from San Francisco to New York. Launching on November 15, Need for Speed The Run lures players into an underground world of illicit, high-stakes racing. The heat is on – and it isn’t just the fuzz who are after you. Entering the race is just the beginning as you blow across borders, weave through dense urban traffic, rocket down icy mountain passes and navigate narrow canyons at breakneck speeds. Powered by DICE’s state-of-the-art Frostbite TM 2 engine, Need for Speed The Run takes the action racing genre to new heights with stunning visuals and car physics that hug the road even at top speeds all built around a gripping storyline. The cars are hot, the racing is intense and the story will have you at the edge of your seat… all the way from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Empire State building.

“This is the year that Need for Speed goes to the next level,” said Jason DeLong, Executive Producer at EA. “We think that Need for Speed The Run is going to surprise people with its intense, thrilling story and big action feel. But the game would be nothing without hot cars and crazy-fast chases. So that is what we’re delivering -- explosive racing that will have players flirting with disaster at 200-miles an hour.”

Using the groundbreaking Frostbite 2 engine, Need for Speed The Run will set the bar with unparalleled visual quality and enhanced physics. Need for Speed The Run will also take immersive storytelling to a new level with cutting edge performances that will draw the player into a world with no speed limits, rules or allies. Autolog, the Need for Speed franchise’s revolutionary social competition functionality, is back and better in Need for Speed The Run as it will continue to reinvent how people play games, track career progression and compare game stats.

Developed by Black Box , a studio of Electronic Arts , Need for Speed The Run will be available November 15, 2011 in North America and November 17, 2011 in Europe for the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, PC, WiiTM and Nintendo 3DSTM.

Updated OP with EA's press release, including that it will be running DICE's FROSTBITE 2.0 ENGINE.

Interesting. DICE had a hand in Hot Pursuit, don't know about Shift 2. But actually running their engine, eh? Maybe we'll see some Split Second-y type of explosions.

Yes, and it's EA, so you shouldn't be surprised.

Though, in their defense, they weren't going to announce it this early, from what I understand. Apparently ShopTo put up a retail listing on their site for the game and a trailer so EA pretty much had to acknowledge it. I bet they were planning on an E3 announcement, or at least something closer to that.

First NFS game with a character on foot out of car. Looks like QTE cut scenes. Autolog even MORE integrated.

I have never played a need for speed in my life but this intrigues me. I like the concept of having to keep going no matter what. I thought this was the direction that Mirrors Edge should have gone for the second one. Some sort of more extreme perpetual motion gaming.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the on the foot chase scenes with QTEs. I was severely unimpressed by the demo.

Hopefully NFS: The Run being developed by Black Box means that Criterion really IS hard at work on Burnout: Crash!

what do you mean second one for Mirror's Edge? Are they making a Mirror's Edge 2?

Not many details on that yet, but I bet it's 1 of 2 different ways:

1) Like EA did with Medal of Honor - it's in "Limited Edition" packages that are for all pre-orders and first run copies in the store. After those are gone in-store, then it's regular stuff without them.

2)It's just attached to the online code so when you activate the online pass it gives you the cars, which I believe is what Shift 2 did.
