Great to see PI getting a release. Unfortunately BAC BRs have forced subs and if PI really CAN look good on Blu Ray... I doubt it a bit.

Damn, I recently bought the Arthaus German DVD as it was the only anamorphic version of the film, wish I had seen this sooner lol. But as Howie said, I doubt it will have much advantage on Blu-ray, and knowing it is forced subs won't make it that appealing. I honestly didn't think we would see this on Blu-ray, and I think this is a fantastic film.

PI seems to have no English language track. Can anybody confirm that?

Edit: could get the info - there IS an English language track! Amazon had only the French Audio in the description.

Did you manage to find out if it is hardcoded, forced, or selectable subtitles? I can't seem to find it out, but I'm guessing it will be forced or hardcoded in French.

Cheers

Couldn't find that out but I assume the subs are forced... I ordered the BR yesterday so when I receive it I'll check it out and report.

Review: http://blubrew.com/2011/06/02/pi-french-release/

The French subs can be disabled via remote according to the review. The PQ doesn't blow me away though. I'll be putting this on my "maybe" list.

Thanks for that review link.

I'll pick up Pi for sure when the price slumps a bit.

Interesting interview with DA here

He says the film will revert to his ownership.

So expect a 3 disc Criterion around October 2018

I can confirm that. Regarding the PQ: I guess it's as good as it gets.

This not in the 3 for 30 Euro promotion on Amazon.fr

Very tempted but not sure what to bundle in with it!

Picked this up:

Looks like they've done a reprint with that cover.

Specs:

Seems locked to B. No forced subtitles.

This film looked raw on DVD -now it's almost bleeding with grain

Anyone else confirm this? There's also now a German release--any idea how they compare?

For those of you who received blue cases instead of black--if you ordered from Amazon.fr, do you know which of these two listings you used? The first one is the one currently linked to from the (unsearchable and thus hard to find) listing on blu-ray.com: incidentally, someone using Google Translate has had some fun with this Amazon.fr listing because the item is listed as "Pi [Blu-ray]" in the original page, but, when translated to English, reads "Pi [VHS]".

1. 14.99 euros, in-stock, sold by Amazon.fr, sponsored seller link on blu-ray.com listing.

2. 12.01 euros, in-stock, sold by Amazon.fr.

I ordered via the first link, I didn't realise there was another link for it.

Thanks for the reply.

It might just be that Amazon messed up the listing and has it listed at 2 different prices for no real reason--certainly wouldn't be the first time. It is somewhat odd though that the first listing has the "There is a newer version of this article" tag and link to the less-expensive version.

If you used the link for the first, more expensive, and supposedly older version, I'm guessing the second link going to the less expensive and supposedly newer version listing isn't going to land me a more desirable package. Oh well. I still like it better than the look of the upcoming German release.
