It finally happened... I have to wonder how they got it because Media Blasters stated this in late 2020. Wonder if it was an issue only for Media Blasters and not Discotek.

Maybe Discotek has more or better connections. I wouldn't be surprised if they do.

From what I can see while watching the Discotek stream, some old licenses are just fickle.

One year, the original producers/licensors are like "nah, we don't want to license this" and then a year later, when some licensing entity asks them again about the same shows, they'll be like "ok sure, here you go."

They stated in the stream that they looked into getting a red case for this and for another earlier release but that they don't have a good source for cases in the numbers that they need. (Presumably Mondo Macabro has cornered the market on them!) So, a great idea that they're on board with but it doesn't look to be happening.

They mentioned during the q&a that it took them a while to get the license, so something must have changed recently that made it available again. Discotek remained persistent and quick (and that is why never say never if something is off-limits for now). It couldn't be in better hands.

If you like BRUTAL and DARK fantasy, this is the series for you. I generally think you can only watch this series and have it be okay. Of course if you do feel compelled to read the manga after, it's pretty good.

It's highly influential as well. Among others Hajime Isayama (Attack on Titan) has cited it as an influence.

So watching Slayers and Those Who Hunt Elves puts me right off the list then huh?

I still might get it - the trailer looks great, and I've been hearing it's a seminal work for years now. And it's not like I can't do dark and brutal, I mean I'm a horror movie fan for god's sake. I just now know that I'm closer in tone to Vampire Hunter D than Escaflowne.
