United Kingdom Serenity (2005)

[Show spoiler]

Serenity

Quote:
Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, who now ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire aboard his ship, Serenity. He leads a small, eclectic crew who are the closest thing he has left to family--squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal. When Mal takes on two new passengers--a young doctor and his unstable, telepathic sister--he gets much more than he bargained for. The pair are fugitives from the coalition dominating the universe, who will stop at nothing to reclaim the girl. The crew that was once used to skimming the outskirts of the galaxy unnoticed find themselves caught between the unstoppable military force of the Universal Alliance and the horrific, cannibalistic fury of the Reavers, savages who roam the very edge of space. Hunted by vastly different enemies, they begin to discover that the greatest danger to them may be on board Serenity herself.
The preceding TV series Firefly never got a UK release, but the US release is region AB and just happens to be down to $23.49 on Amazon (for UK importers £19.14 inc postage) today, what a coincidence

I think I'm missing the coincidence? Or why you called this thread Serenity and not Firefly?

Well there's no UK release for Firefly so creating a thread for it in UK section wouldn't make sense, maybe result in it being moved or locked. As there wasn't a thread for Serenity I though I'd get to birds with one stone.
I think there is a hot deals section in the forum somewhere, but I rarely venture outside the UK section and I'm guessing there's others that way too.

Tempting, but wasn't this a bit of a failure when it came to TV ratings and the show got cancelled? Does this series have a proper conclusion?

You have to realize that Fox f***ed with Firefly from the beginning, going as so far as to demand a second pilot,(stating that the 1st had a captain that was too 'doir' and other things),which they didn't bother airing in its intended order anyway,(they showed the second episode first).

They also refused to air the show in widescreen, but Whedon shot it that way regardless, while keeping things 'safe' for TV.

I love Firefly, but I probably won't buy it on Blu-ray. Although I do have Serenity on Blu and that is awesome. Infact, I might just go and watch it now.

In terms of image & audio, how does this UK release compare to the blu-ray U.S version?

I got the US and a friend of mine brought the UK version.

Unlike the HD-DVD where the UK had a better encode then the US the blu-ray was the excact same disk as used in the US.

Also looked online at the time just to see if a better version came out and it looks like the same disk was used world wide.

A rather fetching steelbook version has plopped onto the letterbox this morning.

Full marks to Play.com's new steelbook-specific packaging - a cardboard box with a couple of layers of padded sheeting inside - which meant that it, and my steelbook version of The Thing, both arrived in A1 condition.

After a hideously dented steelbook from Amazon Canada last week, and a similarly marred replacement, I'd love to see this approach rolled out across the board. Yes, Amazon Canada; I'll even pay a bit more on the shipping side to avoid all the hassle that comes with a bog standard padded envelope and 4000 miles' worth of my item being chucked about.

It's a great sci-fi flick one that I re-watch every couple of months. Best modern sci-fi imo, though I still haven't seen prometeous (however its spelt).

Got a great mix of characters with two strong female roles, and yes I would. Gore guns & a message about GMO manipulation, seems reality is catching up with fiction. *Coughs monsanto*

I'm a massive whedon nerd, loved buffy, angel and everything else he does, but this film does not get the respect it deserves.
Great film and for anyone that has see the series first it really is a fitting end to the series, and if you haven't seen firefly but like the movie sinthetic you should check it out.

I wonder if sales for this will pick up after the success of the Avengers. Would still love to see Firefly brought back...but not at the expense of Suits or Castle!

Its funny what I put back then. I got Firefly on Blu-ray in the end and I'm glad I bought it.

Anyways, I'd love to see Firefly return, but only when Nathan Fillion has finished with Castle.
